ROSEWOOD AMSTERDAM WELCOMES PIET PARIS WITH “THE DRESS, THE DRAWING AND THE DRAFTSMAN”

Art

Until the 30th of September, dear reader, you can discover a truly special exhibition at The Gallery at Rosewood Amsterdam by Dutch fashion illustrator Piet Paris. This month he takes on the role of Artist in Residence, sketching live in the gallery creating a unique performance.

Just by looking at his works, you feel that distinctive Art Deco spirit that so beautifully defined the 1930s. Piet Paris has exhibited worldwide, in magazines, museums, galleries, and fashion institutions, but here we are invited to peek directly into his creative process.

“It all begins with a dress, without it, there is no Piet Paris. I am a fashion illustrator since 1988. My craft is to distill the essence of the dress, its movement, its attitude, its soul,  into line and form” says the artist.

On display are iconic dresses and sketches, tributes to haute couture, and a limited edition of 50 signed prints. With the artist drawing live, the exhibition also becomes a behind-the-scenes journey where the artist himself turns into art. Entry is free and open to all.

This is a very special project, and we Amsterdammers are proud to see it unfolding here. For the next three months, Piet Paris will also appear at several locations across the city, giving us all the chance to adore his craft up close.
