PRIDE EVENTS YOU CAN’T MISS IN AMSTERDAM
words by ANOUK WOUDT
Though Pride Month is technically over in the rest of the world, for Amsterdam, the festivities have only just begun. From July 25th until August 8th, Amsterdam Pride takes over the city, with events popping up all over beloved clubs, bars, museums, and event spaces to create a dazzling celebration of queerness in all of its many forms. Amsterdam has long stood as a beacon for queer culture, and this year carries even more significance as the city marks 25 years since the Netherlands became the first country in the world to legalise same-sex marriage. It will also its first time hosting WorldPride, meaning there are more events than ever this year. Block parties, parades, cabaret shows and even a Drag Olympics — the city will transform into a playground of rainbow streamers, glitter and ballroom music. To sort through the noise, we’ve crafted a list of the most intriguing, exciting and inviting events of the occasion, ranging from calm gallery exhibitions to ecsactic club nights.
Capturing queer love, humour and self expression, Eye Museum’s programme will be presenting classic and contemporary films from around the world, all based around a single theme: Queer Power. The selection includes cult classics such as John Waters’ Pink Flamingos (1972) and The Watermelon Woman (1996) by Cheryl Dunye, while also screening more modern beloved box-office hits like Bottoms (2023) and Moonlight (2016).
