BACK TO ATHLETICS: CELINE X REEBOK REVISIT THE ICONIC FREESTYLE LO

words by DEBORAH DRENOFCI

Sometimes it is the synergy between the past and the present that sets the tone for cooler future movements. The Celine x Reebok collaboration reimagines the iconic 1982 Freestyle Lo, taking the shoe to the streets of Paris — a dialogue between two heritages, American movement culture and Parisian style. The collection will launch in selected stores and on the official website starting Thursday, September 10th.

The 1982 Freestyle Lo is not just another sneaker — it holds a special place in the space between fitness and fashion. First introduced as "the aerobics shoe," and more importantly, as a shoe designed for women, the Freestyle Lo quickly became associated with the fitness culture of the decade. But its reach went further: it was worn on red carpets, and just as easily styled for everyday wear.

The collaboration stays true to the shoe's original shape, bringing forward 8 different colours to play with: black, white, butter, beige, red, fuchsia, peanut, and dark brown. The signature Reebok logo is reworked into a Celine rendition, while a round charm hangs from the laces, giving the silhouette a refreshed, distinctly Celine finish without straying from its roots.

With this collaboration, Celine and Reebok bring together two distinct histories — sport and style, past and present — for a shoe that feels as relevant today as it did in 1982.
