JIL SANDER X PUMA’S K-STREET SNEAKER: CHIC IN MOTION
words by FRANCESCO PIZZUTI
Right now, when it comes to sneakers, the current consensus seems to be that slim is chic, and Simone Bellotti, JILL SANDER’s creative director, is riding this very wave with the new foot-hugging K-street designed in collaboration with PUMA. The collaboration between the two brands is one that just makes sense, as they have consistently negotiated the boundary between athletic functionality and sharp minimalism. Now, under Bellotti’s direction, the new sneaker materializes movement into form with a slim silhouette that feels like an outline of motion itself.
Visually, the sneaker, with its sinuous lines, channels speed through restraint, drawing from archival references like the H-Street and merging sports references from the world of karate, giving it that martial arts precision and creating a tension between softness and control. The materials, suede, canvas, and nylon, further this interplay even more, with each one offering a different tactile feel and weight. The K-Street insists on reduction, the ultra-thin sole and contoured fit resist excess, proposing a return to proximity and comfort instead. The shoe doesn’t stand in contrast with the foot it inhabits, but it’s almost an extension, and there’s something quietly chic about that.
Beyond aesthetics, the K-Street also signals a broader cultural continuity. Since its inception in 1998, the PUMA x JIL SANDER partnership has redefined how sport can inhabit fashion without spectacle. Nearly three decades later, this latest release asserts itself confidently within that lineage.
