IN CONVERSATION WITH FILIP JÖRGENSEN

interview by JANA LETONJA

Filip Jörgensen represents a new generation of footballers redefining the role of the modern athlete. A Danish international competing at the highest level of European football, he is known for his composure, technical ability, and confidence on the ball. Off the pitch, Filip is equally focused on expanding his creative identity, actively pursuing a career in fashion and visual storytelling. By bridging sport and style, he is challenging traditional expectations and positioning himself as part of a broader cultural conversation — proving that today’s athletes can be as influential beyond the game as they are within it.

You’re part of a new generation of athletes who move naturally between sport and culture. When did you first start seeing yourself as more than just a footballer?

I think it came quite naturally over time. Football was always number one, but I always had other interests. As I got older, I realised you don’t have to limit yourself to just one thing. You can still be fully focused on football and explore other sides of who you are.

You’ve spoken about your interest in fashion and modelling. What attracts you to that world creatively?

For me, it’s about bringing ideas to life. You have something in your head and then you create it — through clothes, shoots, visuals. I like the details, the feeling, the storytelling. It’s similar to football in that way, just expressed differently.

Goalkeeping requires focus, calmness and control. Do you see any similarities between performing on the pitch and being in front of a camera?

Yeah, definitely. As a goalkeeper, you need to stay calm and composed, especially in big moments. In front of a camera it’s similar. You need to feel comfortable, in control, aware of your movements. It’s about confidence, but also being relaxed.

Many athletes stay within the traditional expectations of their sport. Was it difficult for you to step outside that and explore other creative interests?

At the start, maybe a little bit because people expect certain things. But I think now it’s more normal. I just focus on what feels right to me. If it’s authentic, people can see that.

Fashion often tells a story about identity. How would you describe your personal style right now?

I’d say clean but with some edge. I like simple pieces but with strong details. Sometimes more relaxed, sometimes more sharp. It depends on the mood, but always something that feels natural to me.

When you think about your future, do you imagine football and modelling existing side by side, or do they fulfill different parts of who you are?

I see them side by side. Football is my main focus. I want to be the best goalkeeper I can be. But fashion and modeling give me a creative outlet. They balance each other well.

Social media has made athletes more visible as personalities and cultural figures. How do you navigate that space while staying authentic?

I try not to overthink it. I just show what I genuinely like, whether that’s fashion, golf, gaming, or just spending time with family. If you keep it real, it’s easier to stay authentic.

Are there particular designers, photographers, or creative figures who inspire the way you think about fashion and image?

I don’t look at just one person. I like different creatives who can tell strong stories through visuals. It’s more about the feeling and the idea behind it than just the name.

Football is often about discipline and structure. Does fashion give you a sense of freedom that sport doesn’t always allow?

Yeah, for sure. Football is very structured — training, matches, routines. Fashion is more open, you can experiment and express yourself differently. That freedom is important for me.

What kind of message do you hope young athletes take from seeing you pursue interests outside of football?

That you don’t have to limit yourself. You can be fully dedicated to your sport and still explore other things you enjoy. For me, it’s about becoming the best in football, but also enjoying everything else that inspires me.
