IN CONVERSATION WITH JUDELINE

interview FIONA FROMMELT

Judeline is a visionary artist ready to redefine the global music landscape. After releasing her debut album ‘Bodhiria’ in 2024 and embarking on a European stadium tour with J Balvin, she kicked off her 'Bodhiria' tour with more than 15 sold-out dates throughout Spain. This year, she made her US debut at Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. Some may say that traditions are only dictated by time, but Judeline has all the cards in her hand to be the one to lead the current generation.

‘Bodhiria’ felt like a journey: between heartbreak and transcendence. What emotional landscape are you entering now? Have you landed somewhere?

I think I’ve landed in a space of acceptance. Now I feel more rooted. I’m still exploring the same questions about love and pain but with a sense of calm. It’s like I arrived on new land after crossing a stormy sea.

You just debuted ‘Chica de Cristal’ at Primavera Sound 2025; you sing about fragility with almost cinematic softness. What place were you writing from?

That song came from a place of deep vulnerability. I was observing how easy it is to break, to shatter, but also how that fragility can become something beautiful like crystal reflecting light. It’s almost a love letter to my most fragile self, to protect her but also to celebrate her.

Your music feels like velvet bruises, holding pain softly. What is it that inspires you?

Thank you. Inspiration can come from everywhere, really. Beauty is all around us, and many people and landscapes inspire my music.

When listening to your songs, we enter spheres of heartbreak and melancholy in an absolutely beautiful way. Does music help you process loss, or does it simply hold space for it to be expressed?

Music is definitely a way to process loss, but it’s also a container for emotions. Like you said, it holds it for me, so I don’t have to carry it alone. I can put it inside the song, and then it belongs to everyone who listens too. That is healing. However, I also believe there is a lot of hope and happiness in my music.

Is music ritualistic or therapeutic for you?

It’s both. I would love my audience to experience it almost as a soundtrack. But yeah, I can see that there is something ceremonial about it, the repetition, the layering.

Your work is rich in symbols: pyramids, glass, and shadows. Where does the symbolism in your work come from? And what do they mean?

I’ve always been fascinated by symbols. They feel eternal as if they survive across cultures and times. I use them because they can carry many meanings at once, like coded language, which we can also rewrite.

Do you ever use dreams as material for songs or visuals?

All the time. My dreams are almost another world that I visit. Sometimes they are even more real than reality. I write down images and phrases when I wake up, and they find their way into my lyrics or visuals.

How did growing up in Cádiz and that coastline shape your inner landscape, and are you influenced by the moon just as much as the tides?

Growing up by the ocean gave me a sense of vastness, of being small next to something infinite. And yes, the moon is everything to me, its cycles, its pull on the water, the way it transforms the night. It’s a mirror of human emotions, and I feel deeply connected to that rhythm.

Having sung since you were a child, you are now blending Andalusian mysticism with modern pop. How has your fusion and style evolved? Was it instinctive?

It was completely instinctive. I grew up surrounded by folk melodies, but I was also obsessed with contemporary sounds. It was natural for me to merge them because they’re both a part of who I am. The more I learned, the freer I felt to mix everything.

You have already worked with the producers Rob Bisel and Mayo & Tuiste. How does working with others affect your inner world as a solo artist?

I love working with talented producers, and I believe something special happens when we collaborate.

What makes a collaboration feel magical versus just technical?

It’s about energy. If there is a true connection and trust, you can create something that feels alive. It’s not just pressing buttons, it’s breathing and seeing the same vision together. That is magic.

If ‘Bodhiria’ was an album about rebirth, heartbreak, and spiritual limbo, what can we look forward to next?

Since ‘Bodhiria’, I have released singles ‘Tu et Moi’, ‘Chica de Cristal’ and ‘Un puente por la bahia’. They are somehow different, but I’d rather have the audience feel it than explain it myself.
