IN CONVERSATION WITH PAPARAZZLE

Interview by Samo Šajn

PapaRaZzle is a London-based afrofusion artist known for blending afrobeats, R&B, soul, and pop. Originally from Nigeria, he has earned over 10 million streams, praise from MTV and BBC 1Xtra. He continues to rise as one of the most exciting new voices.

You’ve gone from Nigeria to London to reaching fans all over the world. How has that journey shaped who you are as an artist?

My music being received by fans all over the world has taught me more about the power of music, and its ability to connect and help us bond. Regardless of where we are from, we could all be singing and dancing to the same music. This has helped me create without limits.

Afrofusion is at the core of your sound. What does that genre mean to you personally?

It means foundational roots, and then the freedom to create anything I’m inspired to do on top of that African foundation.

Breaking past half a million monthly listeners this year is a big milestone. How did that moment feel for you?

It meant a lot especially being independent. But more than numbers, it’s about impact, and God-willing, my music continues to impact people positively.

Your music often blends different cultures and sounds. Where do you usually find the inspiration to experiment?

It’s come naturally, as I grew up listening to everything, and I still do. From Nigerian music to African music, to music from all over the world. That early multi-cultural musical influence partly shaped my artistry.

Your new album feels very personal and cinematic. What side of yourself did you want to show listeners with this project?

As much as I can show in this moment. The growth, my thoughts, my perception on love, life, relationships, my experiences. The album is a lot of me now.

You’ve built a reputation for powerful live performances across Europe. What’s your favourite memory on stage so far?

That would be an headline intimate performance I had in Istanbul, turkey, the audience were so receptive and present. It was beautiful.

With over 10 million global streams, you’re reaching listeners everywhere. What do you hope people take away from your music?

A good feeling, a feeling of being seen, understood, and appreciated.

Looking ahead, what kind of legacy do you want to build with your artistry and your sound?

My art is my contribution to world. So intentionally, I’ll use my music to put as much positivity into the world as I could in my time here. Love is the most important thing ever. We need more of it in the world today, so I’ll keep preaching that through my music.
