IN CONVERSATION WITH PRECIOUS WAY

interview by JANA LETONJA

Actress and rising multi-hyphenate Precious Way is stepping into a breakout moment with ‘The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins’, NBC’s highly anticipated new comedy, which premiered on 23rd February. In a scene-stealing series regular role, Precious portrays Brina, Reggie’s devoted, ambitious fiancée whose support comes with starry-eyed dreams of her own. Blending sharp comedic instincts with musical talent, Precious emerges as a fresh, dynamic force to watch.

‘The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins’ feels like a major moment for you. What first excited you about the role of Brina?

I was instantly drawn to Brina’s joy and her excitement for life. She approaches the world with such optimism and heart, and that energy felt infectious to me as an actor.

Brina is both loving and ambitious. How did you approach balancing her heart with her hunger for stardom?

I never saw Brina’s heart and her ambition as opposites. Her intentions are incredibly pure, and her hunger for stardom comes from a genuine desire to share joy and connect with people. That emotional sincerity grounded every choice I made playing her.

What was it like stepping into a comedy created and executive-produced by Tina Fey?

An absolute honor. I’m such a fan of hers. Every day on set felt like a comedic master class and it pushed me in the best possible way as an actor.

How would you describe Brina’s relationship with Reggie, and what makes it different from typical TV couples?

Their relationship is built on love and mutual respect, which I think sets them apart. There’s so much joy and silliness between them, but Brina also pushes Reggie to grow and be better. She supports him deeply while still keeping him honest, and I think that combination makes their connection feel authentic.

The show plays with image, reputation, and reinvention. How do those themes resonate with you personally as an artist?

Part of being human means making mistakes, and I love that the show embraces that with humor and compassion. It’s a reminder that we’re all deserving of redemption, reinvention, and a second chance.

You also sing the show’s theme song. How special was it to bring your musical talent into this project?

Music is such a huge part of my identity, so getting to contribute musically to the show was incredibly special. I’m grateful the writers gave me the chance to bring that side of myself into the show.

What surprised you most about the rhythm and energy of filming a network comedy?

Probably how difficult it is to not laugh while filming. When you’re surrounded by a cast this funny, staying in character can be the real challenge. There were definitely moments where keeping a straight face felt like the hardest part of the job.

As a rising actress, how do you navigate playing a character who’s chasing fame while you’re experiencing new visibility yourself?

Brina is completely unapologetic about chasing her dreams, and I really admire that. I’m naturally more reserved, so playing her has encouraged me to lean into new visibility with a bit more confidence.

How has this role helped you grow or see yourself differently as a performer?

Comedic timing, without a doubt. It’s such a unique skill and learning to sharpen that has been incredibly rewarding and exciting for me as an actress.

What kinds of roles or stories are you hoping to explore next after this series?

I would love to dive into action. Stepping into something more physical and challenging really excites me. But more than anything, I want to keep telling important stories and playing characters with depth, complexity, and something meaningful to say.
