Germanier closed Haute Couture Week with “Les Joueuses”, and invited us all to play. There were balloon dresses, bursts of colour and texture, polka dots, stripes, snake and leopard prints… even Hello Kitty. The House collaborated with Brazilian artist Gustavo Silvestre to create sculptural volumes in raffia, forms were exaggerated and colour combinations were bold (as always). One model’s body and face were covered in silver glitter, only to be styled with a miniskirt made of oversized beads. An all white, sculptural look was saved for the very end, made of recycled Japanese paper – no colour, and no texture – Germanier’s personal challenge.
Sustainability was once again at the heart of all. Upcycled, reworked and crystal-stressed leather looks used for Eurovision, recycled balloons due to paint or quality defects, melted plastic bottles transformed into garments, and feathers from an Oscar de la Renta dress turned into a top.
This collection was everything we needed at the end of Fashion Week - light-hearted and joyful. While we are still living in politically and socially heavy times, Germanier decided to go with a totally different approach, and to bring joie de vivre to the runway instead.
