PARK CENTRAAL AMSTERDAM, A HOTEL IN THE HEART OF THE CITY

words by NATALIE GAL

Park Centraal Amsterdam encloses 189 rooms of revolutionary design inspired by the Dutch culture of the 1970s. It is steps away from Vondelpark, Museum Square, and Leidseplein, truly at the cultural epicentre of the city.

The hotel is inspired by the style and glamorous charm of the 1970s, a decade known for its rule-breaking nature not only in the Netherlands but worldwide. The wave of social liberalization appeared in design and art as well, with bold, over-the-top colours and motifs.

Kat Klerks, a contemporary Dutch artist assisted in designing, she brings a marvellously warm sensation and sophisticated cosiness to the spaces, combining glamour and gezellig comfort. The arched mirrors, patterned oak floors and three-dimensional ceiling add a touch of drama to the scene, as you walk through the reception you are already carried by a wave of opulence.

Bar Claes is offering true classics such as Dry Martinis or more reinvented drinks such as the Verjus Mohito. The food menu is just as unique, everyone can find their preference from the extensive variety of styles, such as the Holtkamp Cheese Croquettes, Claes Deviled Eggs with trout roe and smoked fish salad or China Town style prawn toast with ginger, chilli and brioche.

According to Bram van der Hoek, CEO & Partner, of Europe Hotels Private Collection, “Park Centraal is a true celebration of its surroundings; a place where history, contemporary design and invigorating spaces inspired by the Dutch way of living and nearby landmarks intertwine. The building has functioned as a hotel for over a century and we are incredibly proud to have played a role in its transition into a destination that’s current and exciting.”
