BISOUS OPENS THEIR SUMMER TERRACE
words NATALIE GAL
Bisous is temporarily taking over the iconic terrace of fine dining restaurant Daalder for this summer break! Right by the canal, under the grand trees, it’s the perfect setting for your next date.
If you’re a true Amsterdammer, or frequently take tram 17 towards Osdorp, you’ve probably spotted the grand terrace on Postjesweg where Daalder resides. Now chef Dennis Huwaë is handing over the keys to his beloved restaurant to entrepreneurs Bas Noorman and Lowie Jansen during Daalder’s summer break. And in true Bisous fashion, the team has created something special for the city.
“We miss having a terrace in De Pijp, so when top chef Dennis Huwaë recently came to us and proposed we take over his terrace during Daalder’s summer break, we didn’t hesitate for a second,” say Bas and Lowie.
The Moët & Chandon champagne and al fresco multi-course dinners make you feel as though you’re in the heart of Paris, with a touch of French bistro charm. The plates are spectacular, such as Sole de Mer – a whole sea bass baked in a salt crust, or the Tournedos au Poivre Concassé. Dennis has also added two Daalder Classics to the Bisous menu: the Toast Tajima – wagyu ham with winter truffle, and the Poulet au Caviar.
This feels like the perfect spot for that late afternoon or after-work hour when you want a bite that’s more special than the usual supermarket run. The location is ideal, in the heart of the city but away from the overcrowded center, calm and hidden enough to be a true gem for Amsterdammers.
The Summer Terrace by Bisous is open seven days a week. And in case of rain, which I’ve also experienced while there (this is Amsterdam, after all) the terrace simply moves under cover without losing any of its charm. It might be hopelessly romantic to say, but I think the rain only adds to it.
