DOMES OF CORFU: IN THE RHYTHM OF THE IONIAN SEA

words by MAGDALENA ROE

There is a different rhythm to Corfu’s western coast, one that has a way of making you slow down. In Glyfada, Domes of Corfu sits between dense green forest and the Ionian Sea, with a stretch of sand that feels almost too beautiful to be real. Stepping onto the beach for the first time, with the crystal-clear water opening out in front of you, it is easy to understand why this part of the island has become such a sought-after escape and is recognised as one of the island’s finest beaches. The beach is, quite simply, paradise.

Everything is designed around the pleasure of doing very little, translating the idea into a more relaxed interpretation of luxury where the focus is firmly on the guest. The resort takes inspiration from the mythological heritage of the island and the epic journey of the Greek hero Odysseus. The 236 rooms and suites are generous, with open-plan spaces extending onto private furnished terraces. Some suites offer two bedrooms and access to shared swim-up infinity pools.

I discovered CORE Spianada, the resort’s open-air social space, tucked between the pool and the beach. Pop-up shops, food and drinks create somewhere to wander between swims. Still, I kept finding my way back to the beach. There is something about the soft sand and clear water that makes it difficult to leave.

The same philosophy carries into the Soma Spa. At Domes of Corfu, The Refined offers personalised treatments, and after a day in the sun, it feels less like another activity to fit into the schedule and more like a natural continuation of the day, reinforcing the resort’s broader philosophy of making relaxation the priority.

Food is equally relaxed and varied, with several restaurants, bars and food concepts spread across the resort. At Meze, traditional Greek dishes and fresh seafood are served right by the beach, while Yaosai brings an Asian-inspired menu to a more refined setting. Spianada takes its cue from Corfu’s traditional food markets, with a selection of casual dining concepts. A tropical street-food truck serves cevicheria, susheria and savoury pokeria, alongside Honaki, a premium gelato bar that quickly became hard to resist.

With the Ionian right there in front of you, its turquoise waters offering a glimpse of why Corfu is often referred to as the “Caribbean of Europe”, it is easy to understand why Domes of Corfu makes the most of its setting. In a destination as naturally beautiful as this, the resort understands that sometimes the greatest luxury is simply having nowhere else to be, allowing you to slow down, switch off and surrender to the rhythm of the day.
