HOTEL MOTTO, PARISIAN ELEGANCE IN THE HEART OF VIENNA

Acting as a stylistic melting pot, Hotel MOTTO mixes bits of 1920s Parisian elegance with a Scandinavian standard of comfort, all meeting in the heart of Vienna. Also incorporating the Japanese philosophy of ‘wabi sabi’, the hotel find its stride in individuality and imperfection, emphasizing dreaminess over traditionalism. Through a generous array of spaces — 85 rooms, 6 suites, an event space, rooftop terrace and even a bakery — they’ve created an expansive experience that makes the perfect anchor to a Viennese getaway.

As you enter the building, you’re immediately introduced into a standard of chic that continually applies itself to every noticeable detail. The lobby’s high arching ceilings and floral fabric-lined walls create an opulent atmosphere comparable to that Les Années Folles in Paris. With a mix of golden table lamps and modernist chandeliers, the space finds itself in a unique purgatory between punk-rock, avant-garde, and pure luxury. Vintage furniture, partly taken from the iconic Parisian Hotel Ritz, decorates the interiors whilst surrounded by pieces exclusively crafted by Arkan Zeytinoglu Architects. This includes the rugs, walls, lamps, tiles, and select pieces of furniture that give the hotel its distinctive character from the moment you enter. It’s dreamy yet unconsciously cool — a true fairytale escapade.

Housed in a historic 17th-century building, the architecture lends itself perfectly to its function, acting as a hotel across three centuries from its beginnings as The Golden Cross in 1665 all the way up to present day, as MOTTO. Refurbished in 1904 by Ludwig Schwarz, the building has influences from Byzantine, Baroque, and Gothic styles,  culminating in a truly special artistic and culturally rich habitat.

Art remains a founding principle of the hotel, extending itself to the hotel’s rooms and walls which are all decked out in modernist pieces that pay tribute to emerging artists. From Andrea Ferolla’s kinetic wall-paintings to Mexican artist Victoria Barmak’s inspiring LGBTQ+ photography, each work matched the uniqueness that MOTTO seems to call home.

Amenities-wise, this hotel is a real treat. With a fitness area and spa, your body and mind needs are covered, while the rooms themselves offer pure comfort through 100% cotton sateen Italian bedsheets, a vintage radio and in-room mini-bar. Bathrooms offer skincare from a local Viennese brand named Saint Charles, whose plant-based scents can do nothing more than lure you into a sea of tranquility.

Chez Bernard, the hotel restaurant and bar, posits the perfect stage to let their menu shine. Surrounded by lush greenery, you are offered flavors that encompass Austrian, French and Mediterranean influences — a dreamy mix. The rooftop bar is the perfect way to end a long, gorgeous séjour in Vienna, with spectacular views that sweep across the vineyards. Live music and prominent DJs add rhythm and ambiance that keep the vibe buzzing and alive all throughout the night. The onsite bakery is also a guest-favourite, drawing you in with its deliciously warm aromas and generous selection. Sweets with a French flair act as the specialty, providing an authentic taste of Paris in the centre of Vienna.

All in all, Hotel MOTTO is nothing short of dreamy with each detail meticulously curated to perfect the guest experience. Luxury, style, and comfort find the most perfect meeting point that makes sure you will enjoy your stay.
