SEA AND THE CITY: HOTEL FASANO SALVADOR

Hotel Fasano Salvador is compelling in the way it chooses to preserve. Set in Praça Castro Alves, in the historic center of Salvador, and forged from a restored Art Deco building — once a newspaper’s headquarters — Fasano Salvador fully leaned into its past, allowing the structure’s previous life to shape its new one.

Opened in 2018, the hotel marks the Fasano group’s first venture into a listed heritage building, and the result does not disappoint. The restoration focused on continuity, never hiding its origin but allowing it to speak for itself; so much so that the original façade still carries the newspaper’s signage alongside the Fasano name. Inside, you are greeted by Carrara and Verde Alpi marble floors that remained intact, while antique Bahian silver chandeliers and dark wood finishes further anchor its historical atmosphere.

The 70 rooms are comfortable and nicely articulated, built around blues, linens, and natural textures that echo the sea and the city. Some spaces, like the former presidential office of the newspaper, retain original wood paneling and decorative elements, but at the same time, practical interventions ensure that the experience remains contemporary.

The rooftop is where the hotel truly moved upward. With views over the Bay of All Saints, the space brings together a pool lined in blue Bahia granite, a bar, and other leisure areas, making it, unsurprisingly, one of the hotel’s strongest features. The service aligns with Fasano’s broader identity; always discreet and efficient, constantly working to maintain a steady level of attention that supports your overall stay.

For dining, Gero Salvador offers a relaxed interpretation of Italian classics. The menu balances the brand’s established repertoire with local cuisine and ingredients, incorporating Bahian dishes such as moqueca and bobó de camarão alongside other pasta and meat dishes.

Ultimately, Hotel Fasano Salvador resists the temptation to dramatize its location and history, or even worse, erase it, choosing instead to work within them. In a city as layered with history as Salvador, this approach feels respectful and intentional, creating a space that exudes that type of authentic charm only history can bring.
