STADSHOTEL STOCKHOLM: THE PERFECT PLACE FOR CREATIVE SOULS

words NATALIE GAL

We’ve always loved Nordic aesthetics, the fashion, food, architecture, art, the whole lifestyle, so we were especially excited to visit Stadshotel. On this year’s Stockholm trip, we made sure not to miss this gem in the Södermalm district, and trust us, you shouldn’t either.

The building itself is historic, built in the early 1870s and commissioned by Queen Josefina. It still carries a distinct royal elegance, with its 19th-century architecture marvelously preserved. Today, it houses 32 distinctively designed rooms, suites, a wellness area, and even a private garden. It truly feels like a meeting place for the city’s creatives and artists.

The rooms are thoughtfully crafted around natural shades and materials, pure Scandinavian minimalism, while weaving in subtle southern touches like the Italian linens they chose with such intention. Alongside the classical elements, there’s this hint of 1970s luxury that’s hard to describe, but one look at the photos and all we can say is: we wish we could go back tomorrow.

As for the food, the philosophy is similar: a celebration of Scandinavian and Swedish craftsmanship. Local ingredients and traditional cuisine take center stage, and everything is considered carefully, even the minibar is curated by the sommelier. Oops, we can’t forget to mention the Matsalen. Among the several dining spaces, it stands out: a former church transformed into a luxurious restaurant.

Stadshotel absolutely made us fall in love, and we’re still having a hard time being away from it, good thing you can always return. It mirrors everything we adore about Stockholm: light, soft, kind, elegant, and full of the cosy, cherished feeling that keeps pulling us back.
