HUNTER BECOMES THE HUNTED IN GENTLE MONSTERS’S NEW SHORT

words by VERONICA TLAPANCO SZABÓ

Hunter Schafer, behind Gentle Monster’s lens, literally and figuratively, under the surreal direction of Nadia Lee Cohen!!!! Only Gentle Monster could summon the gravitas to bring this duo together for a short slasher, The Hunt, perfectly timed for Halloween ( this would make a fantastic group costume, in my opinion.) Once again, we’ve gathered around our screens to deliver a few vaguely cinematically informed thoughts on The Hunt—even at just one minute long, there were plenty of references to catch.

  • We love a good suited-up-posted-up-outside-of-your-window killer

  • Hunter Schafer’s red dress is very Carrie post blood dumping scene

  • She’s still rocking the same fuck ass bob as in the film Cuckoo

  • Very retro Don’t Worry Darling suburbia vibes going on

  • Where can we get one of those masks?

  • The Shining-style axed door 10/10 no notes

  • The evil twins flash onscreen for a sec

  • Why is she running when she’s got a knife in her hand the whole time

  • The tears are very reminiscent of that one scene in Get Out

  • Hunter Schafer as a not-so-final girl but very much a Scream Queen

  • Upset its only a minute long… Nadia Lee Cohen the people want more

Cohen is definitely one to keep an eye on, especially after catching us all off guard with her spontaneous music video drop for Aphex Twin’s Korg Funk 5 (a track originally released back in 2017). She brings her signature retro flair to every frame and that particular uncanny valley sensation. And while The Hunt might linger like a dream half-remembered, the main takeaway remains very real: Gentle Monster’s Fall 2025 collection lands on the website and in stores worldwide on November 7.
