YOUNG, HOT AND RICH: THOUGHTS ON GUCCI’S SHORT FILM
words by VERONICA TLAPANCO SZABÓ
All the fashion and film enthusiasts are well fed today. With hype around watch parties (Lyas, we see you) reaching a fever pitch, Gucci gives us yet another reason to gather round a big screen. On day one of Milan Fashion Week, the brand threw a premiere for The Tiger, a short directed by Spike Jonze and Babygirl mama Halina Reijn. First teased through an Instagram lookbook, the styles came to life onscreen and in the audience making it a perfect swirl of life imitating art imitating life.
Here’s everything that went through our minds:
The intro’s Roman Holiday energy courtesy of Doechii’s Nosebleeds
Barbara Gucci serving LACMA Gala eleganza, drenched in gold, embodying ‘patron of the arts’ realness
The Substance x Succession x Climax, were for sure on the moodboard
Thought Monstro Elisasue was making an appearance for a second there
Demi Moore on the table in a pose almost too Coke-coded to ignore
Elliot Page proving that twink death is nowhere near (believe it or not he’s 38)
We would like to be referred to as “the young hot rich bitch” from now on
More screentime for Alex Consani please!!
Kendall Jenner is very 2000s Carrie Bradshaw night out in the MeatPacking District
All the models are basically Demi Moore clones
Keke Palmer in that blue is absolutely to die for
In Milanese dialect, SCIURA = an elegant, wealthy older woman who is sophisticated, confident, perfect for Keke
“Why are you wearing a tux to a gathering of fewer than 17 people?”
Demi Moore in LA CONTESSA at the family reunion very fitting for her tiger mom energy
Musical snare = very White Lotus
Fight Club reference with Edward Norton’s body double?
Her-esque voice over piano sequence when they are swimming in the pool
Overall a lot of cinematic references happening
Again when Demi Moore blows up the table with a scream it looks like the Kenzo ad by Spike Jonze
Twins arrive in LA SNOB looks with high collars making it the perfect gossip cloaks
For sure a reference to the Olsen twins with the vibe, look and attitude we can’t unsee it
Alien abduction ending… of course
As a final thought Barbara Gucci embodies Gucci itself making it a touching reflection of the brand’s journey, of striving for perfection, following the rules, and letting the system stifle its creativity. The Tiger? That’s the merciless fashion industry. But here’s the takeaway: if you let the tiger have you, you don’t just survive, you become part of it. Suddenly, you can be absolutely everything you’ve ever wanted to be. What was so delightful about this short is that, for the first time, a brand showed its vulnerability not as a flaw, but as a form of liberation so “let the tiger eat you.”
