‘FOLLOWING THE WIND’ AT HERMÈS: AN INSTALLATION BY JOHANNES LANGKAMP
words by VERONICA TLAPANCO SZABÓ
Step softly into autumn with Hermès, as artist Johannes Langkamp brings an enchanting window display to life at their P.C. Hooftstraat 94 store. From September through November, the Crystal Houses set the stage for the third chapter of Hermès’ 2025 celebration of craft. Langkamp’s kinetic installation sways with a gentle wind, delving into the magic of capturing moments where scenery, self, and everyday visuals intersect. Playing with the apparent contrasts of materials, these moving structures unfold stories across multiple layers, inviting reflections on perception, identity, and the delicate interplay between them

Set across three whimsical scenes, a network of pulleys and hand-activated mechanisms brings the installation to life. A constellation of gavroches twirls on rods, guided by the playful breeze, while a merry tea party of cups, saucers, and the generous Saut Hermès teapot spins in joyous motion. Visitors are invited to join the fun, turning handles to set the celebration in motion. Soon, the Maison’s iconic horse enters at a gentle yet spirited pace, moving gracefully through this second festive dimension. At the heart of the scene, a windmill twirls as the woody notes of Barénia Eau de Parfum drift through the space. Twillies whirl and clusters of sparkling jewelry catch the light, displaying a delightful tale of wonder and charm for all who wander through..
