MIU MIU TO GRACE ART BASEL
words by VERONICA TLAPANCO SZABÓ
Ever curious, ever chic, Miu Miu spins women’s stories into art and fashion alike. For the second year running, Miu Miu joins Art Basel Paris as the Official Partner of the Public Program, a series of freely accessible exhibitions, installations, and curatorial projects scattered across some of Paris’s most storied locations.

In this ongoing partnership, Miu Miu presents “30 Blizzards.”, a new work by artist Helen Marten, who is known for her layered practice across sculpture, painting, drawing, video, and writing. Marten now ventures into performance for the first time, crafting a heavily textured experience that mirrors the overall depth of her oeuvre. Born in Macclesfield in the UK, Marten has since left the nest and exhibited globally. Her work is held in major collections including MoMA New York, Tate London, and Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, all to now find herself drawn to the magnetic pull of the city of lights. Marten’s “30 Blizzards.” will be staged at the Palais d’Iéna, home to France’s Economic, Social and Environmental Council, from October 22–26. The exhibition will center around a dialogue between five new sculptures and five newly conceived videos, each pair tracing moments of life, from childhood to older age, and of course the moments of intimacy, community, desire, and loss encountered along the way. The videos will naturally assume the role of punctuating the sculptural installations, creating a fluid, performative libretto.

The title “30 Blizzards.” refers to thirty performers, each with a distinct temperament and emotional “weather.” They move through the space with song and speech, their presence both singular and collaborative, forming a lyrical mosaic of movement. Each performer carries a unique material “tool,” used to navigate the space between language and image, sound and text. A subtle fixed line connects the five sculptural platforms within the Palais d’Iéna’s linear, classical architecture, guiding visitors through an expanded civic tableau that feels alive with possibility.
