OUR FAVOURITE COUPLES & WHY WE LOVE THEIR LOVE

words by ANOUK WOUDT

Love is in the air, especially with the launch of our LOVE Issue 14. With that in mind, we’re taking a moment to appreciate some couples who prove to us that a genuine love is real, even when it feels like a distant concept – especially in this day and age. Reminiscing about famed lovers across film, television, the Internet and real life, these pairs are all highly swoon-worthy, whether that be romantically or platonically.

CHARLOTTE AND HARRY
Sex and The City

A true testament to the idea that love is, in fact, blind, Charlotte and Harry’s relationship is easily our favourite couple to make it out of the trenches that is Sex and the City. Each of the girls dated their fair share of guys — with some questionable picks scattered throughout — but among the final couples, their connection always felt the most genuine. Their story may have been unconventional — after all, ending up with your divorce lawyer may not be how every girl imagines finding the love of her life — but for them it just works!

LANA DEL REY AND JEREMY DUFRENE

Another unconventional love story that stole our hearts is the one between Lana Del Rey and her alligator tour guide lover, Jeremy Dufrene. Meeting (you would never guess) on one of Dufrene’s swamp tours in Florida, the two started dating and marrying within the same year. Fans were taken completely aback, especially since they kept their relationship very low-profile before the sudden marriage announcement, and also let’s be honest, because he is an alligator tour guide… Nonetheless, it’s cute to see a relationship that serves no PR purpose, which feels quite rare in Hollywood. It’s refreshing to see a regular guy appear in the dating pool to prove that the random meet-cute is alive and well.

FINN AND RACHEL
Glee

It’s always nice to see a couple whose love transcends the silver screen, which in this case, is Glee. Throughout their long and complicated on-off relationship, something always drew them back to each other, with every Gleek always considering them endgame. Léa Michele and Corey Monteith’s relationship outside the show was just as magnetic, getting together in early 2012 before Cory’s unfortunate passing in 2013, which cut their time far too short. Now, even a decade later, Léa still posts a tribute to him every year, expressing that “he will always be in her heart.”

TRISHA AND MOSES

Queen of the Internet forever, Trisha Paytas and her relationship with Moses is too iconic not to mention. Awkwardly, they met through Trisha’s ex-podcast co-host, Ethan Klein, who was jokingly called Frenemies before they had a major falling out, dropping the ‘fr’ and just becoming enemies. Moses Hacmon is actually the brother of Ethan’s wife, Hila, making the broken-up cohosts in-laws, funny enough. What seemed at first like a jokey backstab fling that would never last became a true companionship that somehow, against all odds, just works. Now, six years later, they are still together and married with three kids, each with the most perfect Trisha-esque names: Malibu Barbie, Elvis and Aquaman.

SARAH PAULSON AND HOLLAND TAYLOR

Though you may call this age gap a little concerning, Sarah and Holland’s love transcends your binary constructs, proving that love can manifest itself when you may not expect it. Together for almost 11 years at this point, they speak so beautifully of each other that you can’t deny that their connection is real despite the 32-year age gap. They are both intelligent women who, I’m sure, are cognizant of the age differences, and yet have found their extraordinary bond is worth a few concerned looks.

MICKEY AND MALLORY
Natural Born Killers

image via PINTEREST

A modern-ish-day Bonnie and Clyde, Natural Born Killers tells the story of two partners in crime and love, as they go on their mass-killing spree across America. Based on a Tarantino script, the film is a blood-soaked, violent thriller that takes you on a road trip that lands them at the centre of mass media attention. Their trauma-filled childhoods bond them together in a “us vs them” fantasy, where the only people that mattered to them were each other. Their white trash 90s Americana vibe has made it survive the test of time, leaving many glorifying their psycho love and lust. Though they may be a hot couple, it’s important to note that they are never an example to follow.

DAVID AND PATRICK
Schitt’s Creek

When Patrick first appeared in season 3 of Schitt’s Creek, no one could have predicted the heartfelt love story that would unfold between him and David. Introduced as an overseer of emerging businesses in the area, it didn’t take long for Patrick to take a liking to David’s bold personality, with chemistry that jumped off the screen from their very first meeting. Eventually joining him as a business partner for what would become Rose Apothecary, their relationship soon blossomed into TV’s most tender romances. Seeing as this was Patrick’s first time out of the closet, as a fairly “straight”-presenting man, this only added a deeper layer to their relationship, allowing David to be the one to allow him to explore an untapped part of himself. Putting aside his polyamorous and pansexual stints in the past, David found himself ready to commit for the first time in his life, making their relationship a healthy balance of firsts that just pulsed with an overwhelmingly pure sincerity. Closing their chapter with their wedding in the final season, they definitely got their happy ever afters, which we love to see!

RIHANNA AND A$AP ROCKY

Bringing the friends-to-lovers pipeline to life, the world was shocked when the news broke that Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were officially together. Both known for their insane beauty, it was nice to see two hot people get together. Now, seven years and three children later — we basically automatically picture Rihanna pregnant at this point — they are still going strong.

TRIXIE AND KATYA

Though these two may not be a couple in the traditional sense, they are a pair that we absolutely love, and you can’t deny the bond they share is truly heartwarming. Known for their comedic personalities that they let shine online and on stage, the two Drag Race alumni match each other’s freak perfectly, earning them a spot on our lovelorn list. Evolving from their early UNHhhh YouTube days and to now co-hosting their The Bald and The Beautiful podcast, they’ve stuck by each other’s side for over ten years now, and their dynamic is still just as funny as it was in 2016.

LEVI CORALYNN AND WILLIAM CONRAD

image via @levicoralynn

The way William treats Levi is exactly the kind of love people romanticise before being crushed by the horrors of the 2026 dating pool. But, alas, this relationship acts as a reminder that genuine care and devotion still exist. Embracing the “stay-at-home boyfriend” role, William happily cooks, cleans and spoils his girlfriend, while Levi brings in the financial stability through their content creation. Switching the traditional roles, their dynamic proves that chivalry is, in fact, not dead.

ANDIE AND BENJAMIN
How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days

As a tribute to the best rom-com to come out of the early 2000s — sorry, that is not subjective — Andie and Benjamin from How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days, of course, need to be mentioned. As a fellow writer, we have to acknowledge her dedication to her craft! Though each of the characters was working towards their mutual separation, it ended up only bringing them closer together. After all, if you can make it through baby-talk clinginess and penis names, maybe the relationship can make it through anything.

ABBI AND ILANA
Broad City

image via PINTEREST

Throwing in another friendship couple, because this duo is the truest expression of a genuine love between best friends in the media. Broad City’s Abbi and Ilana take on New York in all kinds of messy, chaotic ways, but always end up getting out unscathed. They are each other’s everything, maybe because they don’t have any other friends really, but also because they don’t need any.

CHARLI XCX AND GEORGE DANIEL

image via PINTEREST

Emitting that newlywed glow, we love the way Charli XCX loves her George. Both musicians (George is the drummer/producer of the 1975), they have even collaborated on several projects together, including Charli’s Crash and Brat albums. Keeping their relationship heavily out of the public eye, their Sicilian wedding getaway managed to make it to the socials — it was during Brat Summer, the guest list was insane, and it was in Sicily — hello, #dream.

CHUCK AND BLAIR
Gossip Girl

image via PINTEREST

Spotted: Chuck and Blair are still on our it-couple roster in the grand year of 2026. The pair may have had their ups and downs, but there’s no doubt in our minds that they deserve to be on this list. Locked in from season one, they are the only couple to have survived throughout the crazy drama of Gossip Girl, closing their story with a marriage in the series finale. Yes, they did break up multiple times, but you know what they say: it’s about the destination, not the journey, or something like that. Through all the plotting and scheming, their passion for each other was obvious, even when they absolutely hated each other, which was always fair on Blair’s front. Chuck Bass was the most evil scummy playboy, but he changed for his queen B, when he finally said those 8 letters, 3 words, finally committing to being the man she needed.

LEIGHTON MEESTER AND ADAM BRODY

image via PINTEREST

Finally we’re ending off with two iconic TV heartthrobs from different universes that are together IRL. Obsessed! This means Leighton Meester makes this list twice, both in fiction and in fact — proving she is thriving when it comes to love. But seriously, this crossover is crazy. The OC’s Seth Cohen (as well as Gilmore Girls’ David Rygalski– swoon!) and Gossip Girl’s Queen B for Blair Waldorf is a crazy mix, and it’s just so perfect. Obsessed with her claiming her territory with Brody’s latest TV rom-com venture, Nobody Wants This, guest starring as the main character (Joanne)’s middle school nemesis. It’s also ironic because Kristen Bell, who plays Joanne, was also the voice of Gossip Girl, becoming a nemesis reunion of sorts.
