A FAMILY AFFAIR ACROSS TIME WITH MARINE SERRE

words by VERONICA TLAPANCO SZABÓ

There’s something inevitable about an end-of-year nostalgia spiral, the moment you’re back home with your parents, the dusty photo box beckons to be revisited. Suddenly you’re face-to-face with your first Christmas, grainy point-and-shoot evidence or pixelated camcorder (depending on your birth year) of you tearing into the toy you aggressively circled in the catalogue weeks prior. But, zoom in a little, wait. Is that… a Marine Serre sweater cameo in the family archive?

This year, Marine Serre slips into our home footage with a holiday campaign through past, present, and future. The collective acts of wrapping, gathering, celebrating are revisited, and retouched. The vintage family photographs in question are from the 1980s and 1990s which were sourced from the personal archives of team members working within the Maison. These archival Christmas scenes all share warm living rooms, homemade decorations and a gleeful spirit only amplified by the brand’s Moon monogram. In every family vignette, these subtle intrusions point towards the inner fashion kid who lived inside each of us long before we knew.

Running alongside these refurbished relics is a series of larger-than-life visuals where models play around with Marine Serre staples scaled to double their size. Crescent moons draped in ornaments, sky-high heels planted in snow, blizzard dusted handbags all paying homage to the exuberance of early 2000s kitsch holiday iconography.

Together, one thing’s certain, wherever, or whenever, you are we are always standing beneath the same Moon, the Marine Serre Moon that is.
