A MORE CINEMATIC G-STEEL

words by SAMO ŠAJN

CASIO’s new GST-B1000D arrives with a sharp update on the G-SHOCK’s industrial look, offering a cinematic feel that doesn’t stray too far from the brand’s roots. With an octagonal case and brick-pattern dial that give a clear nod to the original DW-5000C, the overall execution feels cleaner and more intentional.

The mix of straight and circular hairline brushing, broken up by small mirror-polished accents, gives the metal a quiet, controlled sheen rather than a flashy shine. And thanks to a newly developed Tough Solar module and Mobile Link connectivity, the case comes in at a slimmer 11.6 mm, which makes it sit flatter and more comfortably on the wrist. In person, it comes across as precise and well thought out, as though designed to look good both in daily wear and in a close-up shot.

Colour is handled with a light touch. The inset dial uses the classic G-SHOCK red, blue, and yellow, each tied to a performance function and easy to read against the metal architecture. Available in black, blue and green, the GST-B1000D transitions easily from office to weekend to outdoors without feeling out of place or overdesigned. Overall, it’s a thoughtful update to the G-STEEL line: tighter design, better fit and a more confident take on the toughness G-SHOCK has been defined by for decades.
