MARCELLA RANERI STUNS IN ARCHIVAL FASHION AT CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

Marcella Raneri certainly knows how to move through a room. As a dancer and choreographer, movement is not only part of her profession, but part of the way she inhabits the world, and her relationship with fashion follows a similar rhythm as she celebrates clothes with emotion and performance.

At the 79th Annual Cannes Film Festival, Raneri brought this sensibility to the red carpet with a series of appearances that reflected her eye for couture. Her choices were graceful and elegant with pieces that carried history, craft, and a sense of narrative.

Her most striking Cannes moment came in a white corset embroidered feather couture gown by Jean Paul Gaultier x Ludovic de Saint Sernin. The garment carried a stunning theatrical charge, balancing delicacy and structure, softness and control. With its sculptural corsetry and feathered texture, the gown felt almost choreographic. It was couture with movement in mind, and on Raneri, it became something even more personal.

This look was such a special experience, and the moment I saw this dress, it instantly reminded me of Swan Lake. As a dancer, it felt like stepping into a dream — somewhere between fashion and ballet.
— Marcella Raneri

That reference captured the entire mood of the look. As the gown evoked the disciplined and romantic atmosphere of ballet, it all just made sense in connection to Raneri’s background.

For the amfAR Gala, Raneri continued that dialogue between fashion and memory, appearing alongside her husband Daniel Nutkis, Founder and Executive Chairman at HITRUST, in an archival Valentino Spring/Summer 2002 look. The dress was bright red, with three bows tying the torso in three different spots and a fall of lightly ruffled fabric going all the way down to her feet. The choice once again revealed her interest in garments that carry a past while still feeling alive in the present.

Overall, across the festival, Marcella Raneri demonstrated taste and elegance in both of her choices, selecting two garments that truly encapsulate the importance of craftsmanship and storytelling.
