NEW YORK FASHION WEEK STYLE DIARY
editors HANNAH ATIRA and JOYCE ONOURAH
As fall makes its ambivalent approach on the island of Manhattan and its surrounding boroughs, the first brisk breeze signals the beginning of not only a new season in the air but a new season of fashions on the streets. Reigniting the buzz of the previously quieter month of August, the city’s infamous fashion crowd returned from their summer holidays ready to showcase new finds and set the tone for the upcoming season.
From runway shows to activations, parties, and pop-ups, celebrity sightings, and save-worthy street style moments, the whirlwind that is New York Fashion Week quite literally breezed by! In the blur of it all, we managed to take note of everything happening, from street style trends to runway moments, and everything in between. Your digital diary of all things NYFW awaits.
THE SHOWS
The week's most coveted moments filled with fan favourites, editors, buyers, and industry insiders all shuffling into not-so-secretly disclosed locations for 15 minutes of beauty. Six days felt like six weeks from all the shows that we found ourselves able to pack in. With this past week breathing new life into the city, through designs, presentations, or exciting celebrity spottings, the “only at fashion week” moments were endless.

Emerging designer Campillo showcased his third collection at NYFW, demonstrating an evolving intersection between the designer's Mexican heritage and contemporary silhouettes. While Rachel Scott displayed her ability to juggle two houses, debuting her first collection for Proenza while also presenting a breathtakingly beautiful take on carnival at her brainchild, Diotima. The CFDA award winner presented a stunning display of structure, texture, and shimmer with a new take on form, and a nod to her signature crochet.

At Tibi this season, the brand reimagined the story of the Tibi woman, incorporating new silhouettes, techniques, and patterns in a fresh manner. Maintaining the integrity of the brand, it was great to see how Tibi is continuing to evolve. Establishing new beginnings, Nicholas Auburn’s debut at Area was an excellent kickoff to his tenure. Hailing from both Tom Ford and Balenciaga couture, his new collection notably referenced both his past design history as well as Area’s signature notes.

The celebrity sightings this season were not just in the front rows but on the runways, too. As Solange Knowles made a frenzy-inducing backdoor entrance at Luar in support of her son Jules, who made his return to the brand's runway this season.
THE TRENDS
By far the most captured and anticipated part of any fashion week is the current trends that editors, show goers, and tastemakers can be seen donning down the city’s catwalks. As self-described connoisseurs of fashion, we took note of fall-winter trends and weaved them into our own pov’s. For this fall and winter, we noticed that the strongest trends lay in the details, from texture and silhouettes to print(s) and colour ways; leaning on the detailed moments is how we styled our favourite looks.

Butter yellow and chocolate brown were by far our favourite colour ways when looking for both special and staple pieces this season. Cashmere sweaters from Guest in Residence and Reformation proved to be the perfect cozy nighttime option when we wanted to forgo a second layer. While a brown leather bomber from The Frankie Shop and slick track pants from Wardrobe NYC were the perfect match for an on-the-go moment. Of course, a butter yellow accessory couldn't be resisted, and this Maketh Thou slouchy carry-all quite literally carried it all.

Sneakers are nothing new to fashion, and over the last couple of seasons, they have continued to be re-imagined, living in both the streetwear and high-end fashion spaces. As the chunkier sneakers from past seasons were retired, they have been replaced by a more slender silhouette. For Salomon, the sleek nature is a classic to their brand; however, this new style merged the worlds of sporty and chic with a pink ribbon peekaboo on the tongue. Taking a step in a lighter direction, these Nike Air Superfly sneakers were nearly feather-light to the point of moulding to the foot, both a fashionable and functional choice for the week's festivities.

This season, suede truly was the moment, and while it wasn't quite cool enough for suede jackets or pants, suede accessories satisfied our cravings. From &Other Stories to Cos, we chose a selection of suede in fun colour ways and unique shapes that added the perfect elements of playfulness to our looks!

That transitional period between summer and fall is truly the most romantic time of the year in NYC, and during this fashion week, we translated that romance into our wardrobe. Touches of lace found their romantic notions in our looks from an &Other Stories skirt turned into a dress atop Agolde jeans to a silk Reformation number whose hue paired beautifully with an Etro handbag and sunnies.
EVERYTHING INBETWEEN
The beauty of New York Fashion Week truly lies within the madness. Maneuvering between boroughs by train, car, and foot is not for the weak, but in true girls-on-the-go fashion, a few essentials allowed us to maintain our sanity in style. While the calendar of shows began before noon and ended well into the night, a few staples managed to carry us through the day. To keep warm once the sun set or create that draped over the shoulder look, Banana Republic offered the perfect worn leather jacket that certainly fit the bill. While an Isabel Marant pouch bag held all of our fashion week survival kit needs, such as Aesop and Self Services hand creams, laptop(s), Tower 28 lip oils, sunnies, and of course, the ever essential portable charger!
Amongst the nonstop action, we managed to find a few lagging moments throughout the days. Lucky for us, Chill House’s Soho Spa offered the perfect midday oasis with NYFW specials in collaboration with Derek Lam 10 Crosby. An exclusive Shu Uemura facial brought our makeup-bogged skin back to life while the spa’s signature 50-minute massage healed our aching muscles, from running to catch shows.
After the party is the afterparty, and while there is no party like a fashion week party, brand presentations offering an array of snacks and beverages while viewing new collections was our kind of event. A Sunday afternoon with Dorothee Schumacher consisted of a guided sneak peek of not only what is to come but also a delicious array of cookies, coffee, coconut water, and more. Amongst the beautiful pieces previewed in the upcoming collection, these CPH essential pants were to die for; of course, it was only fitting to try them on.
Now that the adrenaline rush that is New York Fashion Week has died down, it's time to rest and prepare for next season!
