SAUL NASH RETURNS TO HACKNEY FOR MASQUERADE
words by MAREK BARTEK
Launching the first drop of Masquerade, the designer looks to Hackney and the cultural energy of London for an inspiration, exploring the landscape that once birthed his namesake brand.
Photographed by Laura McCluskey, the campaign takes inspiration from the tradition of masquerade, continuing Nash’s ongoing fascination with identity and transformation. Through a series of intimate portraits, the collection examines how clothing can shape the way we present ourselves to the world.
The offering reworks everyday staples through Nash’s movement-led design approach. Military-inspired workwear jackets arrive with transformable collars, while cropped trench coats bring a more dynamic feel to classic outerwear. Elsewhere, asymmetric alpaca-merino cardigans are paired with relaxed jersey tracksuit bottoms. A palette of earthy browns, greens and navy runs throughout the collection, alongside a mix of technical and tactile fabrics. Lightweight padded bombers crafted from recycled nylon sit alongside new ISKO denim pieces, while the brand’s signature compression top, printed with a hazy body motif, returns in updated seasonal colours and recycled lycra.
Rather than offering a fixed idea of modern menswear, Masquerade reflects the different identities we move between every day. It’s a theme that has become central to Nash’s work, and one that feels particularly at home in London.
The first drop of Masquerade is available now, with further releases arriving throughout the year.
