SCARLETT JOHANSSON JOINS PRADA AND CREATES PURE, OLD-FASHIONED CINEMA
words NATALIE GAL
Scarlett Johansson just joined Prada in one of the most exciting campaigns of the year! I’ve always felt ScarJo has that kind of beauty that slipped through time from a bygone era, she belongs in a Renaissance painting, or as the muse of a Dutch master. (Well, she did play Girl with a Pearl Earring back in 2003.) Beyond her looks, her talent is equally timeless. Just glance at her filmography, it’s rare for someone to shine in both a Marvel blockbuster and a Wes Anderson film.
This campaign is directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, yes, the genius behind Poor Things. Prada’s Galleria handbag reappears every year, and for good reason: it’s one of the most iconic creations the brand has ever made. But here, reframed in this cinematic sense by two living icons, it feels different. It’s like a mystery film, conceptual, unexpected, the kind of thing you wish would stretch into a feature-length experience that you can watch all night.
It’s actual poetry. Definitely one of our favorite campaigns this year, and one of the best Prada has ever delivered. And the ending? Just a little funny twist that makes it even better.
Now, give yourself 1:49 and let it make your day!
