VEJA X MISCI LAUNCH AN ODE TO BRAZIL IN THE FORM OF A SNEAKER

Bringing Brazil to the international front, VEJA and MISCI are teaming up to celebrate their shared Brazilian roots. Though VEJA is originally based in France, they’ve been sourcing their raw materials from Brazil, whether that be native Amazonian rubber or leather from organic farms in Rio Grande do Sul. MISCI, on the other hand, is Brazilian through and through, making this collaboration all the more special. Inspired by the country’s dunes, this launch includes two sneaker models that build upon their identities as brands while forging an even stronger connection to the rich heritage and culture of Brazil.

Over the past 20 years, VEJA has increasingly been focusing on integrating fair trade, transparency and using organic materials, building direct connections with producer families based in Brazil. Collaborating with MISCI feels like a natural extension of this mission, with their creative vision that always focuses on highlighting Brazilian craftsmanship above all. Showcased at the MISCI runway show during Rio Fashion Week last April, the two shoe styles are now on the market, finally bringing their proud creation to the people.

The collaboration takes a spin on VEJA’s Paulistana model, which is its retro-running style, offering two new asymmetric colourways that feel true to each brand’s individual strengths. Shades of brown overtake the release, through deep chocolate hues and sandy beige, each shoe seamlessly completing its respective look. A robust sole is obliquely contrasted by pirarucu leather — a signature MISCI material — that adds a crackled, textured appearance that makes the piece stand out with its unique handcrafted finish.

Aimed to imitate Brazil’s dunes, the shoes feel closely tied to nature, complete with its innate irregularities and earthy palette. Each brand has a deep allegiance to environmental sustainability, making this detail less of a coincidence but more of a conscious embrace of Mother Nature’s beauty.

This launch feels particularly personal, considering MISCI founder Airon Martin's vision for Brazil. Despite its history as a top cotton producer, Brazil has always been more regarded as an exporter of raw materials rather than finished products. Martin wants to change that, and that starts with MISCI, empowered by this collaboration with VEJA. By teaming up with an international brand, they are able to put Brazil at the forefront of the market, allowing them to allow the world to see the contemporary version of Brazil.
