IN CONVERSATION WITH AGGY K. ADAMS

interview JANA LETONJA

British actress Aggy K. Adams is making waves across both UK and international screens. Fresh off a lead role in Channel 4’s hit drama ‘The Couple Next Door’, which recently returned for its second series, Aggy continues to showcase remarkable range and charisma. Known for her performance as Iskra in Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’, she will also star in the upcoming sci-fi film ‘Project Darwin’.

We can currently watch you in ‘The Couple Next Door’. What drew you to the character in this series?

Mia was written in such an interesting way. Deeply complex, smart, funny, charming with a very good heart, haunted by her past and trauma.

The show premiered its second season this July. How has the audience response been so far, and what’s that reception felt like for you personally?

I keep receiving many great messages online from the audience, and I love every single one of them. Also, people came up to me a lot saying they loved the show and loved Mia. It felt so rewarding.

‘The Couple Next Door’ has such intense themes. What was the most challenging part of filming this season?

Mia is very forward, flirty and she just goes for it. Personally, I’m incredibly shy and guarded, especially if I like someone, so coming onto Charlotte and Jacob as Mia was challenging but fun.

You played Iskra in Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’. What was that experience like, especially stepping into such a globally loved fantasy universe?

Really great, and I can’t wait to share more with the world soon. I’ve been familiar with this world as, growing up in Poland, the books by a Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski were incredibly well known. It’s wild to me that it has become such a global phenomenon thanks to the video game and Netflix.

How do you choose such diverse roles across different platforms and genres?

I think it’s just been a lovely coincidence so far. I’m really looking forward to stepping into the indie movie world now.

What’s it like collaborating with such international casts and crews, from French productions like ‘Greek Salad’ to UK dramas?

I feel like I’ve gained so much cultural knowledge in recent years. I’ve worked with French and German directors, lived in South Africa, France, Greece, Romania, Kazakhstan even. I feel I have many different perspectives to offer now.

What has been the most surprising lesson you’ve learned on set so far?

How to get through long days on set and how to preserve my energy. I learned that I don’t need to be so open and giving to everyone all the time. I need to take care of myself and protect my energy.

How do you stay grounded and creative when working across such fast-paced, high-profile productions?

That’s a lesson I’m still learning, but meditating helps me massively. I try to meditate on set during the lunch break.

Your upcoming sci-fi film ‘Project Darwin’ opposite Tom Felton sounds fascinating. What can you tell us about that role and the story?

I haven’t seen it yet, but apparently it’s coming out later this year as well. Very exciting.

What kind of stories or roles are you most eager to explore next in your career?

There are many. I’m fascinated by Joachim Trier’s exploration of characters. He does it so well, in such a nuanced way. One of my favourite films is ‘The Worst Person in The World’. He has a new one coming out soon, ‘Sentimental Value’, which I can’t wait to see.
