IN CONVERSATION WITH DIANA LOUISE BARTLETT

interview by MAREK BARTEK

Almost a year ago, & Other Stories entered a new chapter. With a refreshed identity and a more expressive approach to creative direction, design and styling, the brand began looking at the everyday through a more personal lens —inviting real life into the picture.

For Pre-Fall 2026, & Other Stories hands the narrative to Paris-based photographer Diana Louise Bartlett. Usually the one shaping the story from behind the lens, Diana steps in front of it, wandering through the 9th arrondissement she knows by heart. From her apartment and favourite neighbourhood addresses to the streets of Saint-Georges, she captures a glimpse of Parisian life that feels intimate, unpolished and — most importantly — her own.

You are primarily known for your work behind the camera. What was it like stepping into front of it and become the face of the campaign?

It’s fun to play the role I’m typically directing from behind the scenes. I’m much more used to observing and shaping a narrative from the other side of the camera, so being in front it gives me a different perspective — and the more I do that, the better I am at directing models on my sets. I’m always jumping in the frame and giving pose direction. It’s a blessing to be put in their shoes, let’s say!

You’ve worked with many other brands and publications, what made you want to say yes to this project?

The brand is nostalgic for me, I remember when I was studying photography at Parsons and living in SoHo — I was wearing a lot of & Other Stories. It’s good to be back!

What shapes your visual language and how did you make it your own?

My visual language is shaped by my life really — my upbringing, travels, those intimate moments and relationships. I strive to depict something raw and intimate even within a sometimes fashion image. I think what makes it my own is the constant search for authenticity.

For this campaign particularly, you might be the face of it but you were also responsible for the overall creative direction and styling. What was the main source of inspiration for this project?

It wasn’t very complicated, really, and it wasn’t meant to be. We — the & Other Stories team and I — wanted to show a glimpse of daily life in Paris.

How would you describe your style?

Eclectic but with a real appreciation of the classics. I like pieces that feel timeless, but I’m equally drawn to unexpected combinations, personal touches and tons of expressiveness.

The campaign was shot in Paris, where you’re based. What do you love about living in Paris?

I love the history of it. The architecture and also the modernity the international creative scene is bringing to the city.

What’s your favourite spot in Paris?

My home! I’m almost never there, which has made being there feel like a luxury.
