IN CONVERSATION WITH HARRY COLLETT
interview by JANA LETONJA
With a presence that moves effortlessly between screen and style, Harry Collett steps into a defining moment as he reprises his role as Prince Jacaerys in the upcoming season of House of the Dragon. Having emerged as a breakout favourite, his portrayal of Prince Jace captured a balance of vulnerability and quiet authority that resonated far beyond the show. As anticipation builds for the next chapter, Harry expands his range with the upcoming film Easy, while continuing to shape a presence that extends into fashion and music. It’s a moment that reflects both momentum and transformation, where character, image, and identity begin to align.

Prince Jace quickly became a fan favourite. How did you experience that response?
It’s a blessing, really, to be a likeable character in the show. I didn’t expect him to become a fan favourite so quickly. All I wanted was to have people accept Jace and to do my job within the series. When everyone reads the book, they have an idea of what that character is going to be like in their head, and you want to get it right, and hopefully, I have done my job in the series and gotten Jace right. I’m very happy with the response I’ve had, and lucky to experience this in the first place, and have the fans trust me and be very happy. We have the best fans in the entire world.
How does Jace evolve in the upcoming season of House of the Dragon?
He goes from a boy to a man. We see how he can be an amazing leader and could one day be an amazing king. We see that he does everything for family, protection and for the future of the realm. He’s a people’s person, has become more mature.

Jace carries a strong sense of duty. What aspects of him do you personally relate to?
For me, it has always been Jace’s determination. When he has a goal, he goes to it like tunnel vision. He can’t see anything but the light at the end of the tunnel. He takes advice, but he doesn’t let anyone step in his way. For me, that’s kind of what I hope to do with my career. I’ve got goals, and I want to reach them, and if I keep dreaming, hopefully I can do that.
Has that visibility changed your relationship to the role or to acting in general?
100%. I think that Jace has definitely changed my overall experience. Playing a more mature character and being in a series for adults has really changed my acting. I also think that we have the blessing every year to come back and do it again, and when we do, we are able to play with changing the character and bringing different ideas. It’s changed my experience for the better, because if I wanted to suggest something, I’d have the power to do that.

What drew you to Easy and the character of Lucas Maxfield?
I remember having a meeting with Luke Eve, the director, and we got on like a house on fire. He was so excited about the project, which is always so nice to see in a director. I immediately loved Lucas as well because it was something I haven’t done before, a guy with tats who rides a motorbike and is ‘emo’, is very different for me. And that’s what I like, I want to play as many versatile characters as I can. I had a great time doing that job. It was very out of my comfort zone, but I absolutely loved it, and it was amazing, unique, with the best cast ever. Shout out to Lizzy Greene, my co-star, an absolutely amazing person with amazing talent. I’m looking forward to that project coming out and for people to see it.
As your career grows, what kinds of roles are you most interested in exploring?
As I said, I want to play very versatile roles. I’ll do anything under the sun. I think I want to do a play next, and would love to carry on with film and TV as well. I’d love to do a war film or a western, or something crime-related, as I always love watching those. It would be nice to play a historical character, as I’d love to do the research before I go into it and, kind of like Jace, prepare and make sure I’m going to get it right. If you’re basing a performance on a real person, like a biopic or true crime, it needs to be spot on.

You’ve also been building a presence in fashion. What draws you to that world?
I love fashion. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I do. I always like trying things that are out of the box for me. I used to just see something on a rail, and if it was something that I didn’t like, I’d say no, straight away. But now, if I see something I’m unsure about, I’ll still try it on, and it’s a 50/50 chance of it actually working. You’d be surprised at what you can pull off. I used to care so much about what people think, but as I’ve gotten older, I don’t. It’s really nice to just have a bit of freedom within yourself. At the end of the day, if you feel comfortable wearing something, it will look good.
Does fashion feel like an extension of your creative expression?
Definitely. I do find creative expression within fashion as well. I believe that every clothing garment should have a story, and if not, you should make one for it. That’s sort of similar, and helps me draw from acting into fashion. Make it magical, try out new things. If they work, they work, and if they don’t, they don’t. That’s the beauty of being creative. It doesn’t always work out, but you can experiment and be free.

You also DJ. How does music fit into your life alongside acting?
Music fits really well into my acting schedule, to be honest. A lot of the time, acting can be on and off, so for now, it fits and stops me from going crazy, as it keeps my creativity running. I love having creative freedom with music, and after a long day, I can make music on set, after set, or go and DJ, which normally happens in the evenings when I’ve wrapped. It all fits in quite nicely, but I’m not going to become a full-time DJ anytime soon. It’s a hobby that I’ve been lucky enough to go as far in as I have. Acting will always be my number one.

Do you find similarities between performing on screen and behind the decks?
I do find them a little bit similar. You’ve got to do your own track selection when you’re an actor, really. Your track selection is everything you’ve put together to build the character, so you’ve got to make sure every single little beat and emotion that you’ve put into that character fits the mood, because otherwise it just won’t work.
It’s the same with DJing. I’m going to make sure my set is planned thoroughly. Sometimes you have to read the crowd, and it’s the same in acting. You’d do something in one season and then have to change it because it just doesn’t work anymore. So yes, they’re quite similar, especially in terms of the nerves. The nerves of performing in front of people, or on stage, is the adrenaline I get that I find very similar.

What excites you most about this next chapter of your career?
I’m just looking forward to seeing what sort of roles open up for me and how many people I can work with, and what I can do next. How different I can go, how whacky I can go. It can take any direction, really, and I’m just so grateful to be in this position in the first place, so I’ll take whatever comes and whatever challenge is offered to me.
