IN CONVERSATION WITH JORDAN ALEXA DAVIS

Hollywood rising star, Jordan Alexa Davis, has an exciting summer ahead. She is set to appear in Warner Bros. and Bad Robot’s highly anticipated thriller The End of Oak Street, where she stars alongside Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor in a pivotal role that could become even more significant as the story unfolds. Audiences may also recognize her from Apple TV+‘s acclaimed series Defending Jacob. Beyond acting, she’s also an accomplished singer-songwriter whose music has been featured on screen.

Congratulations on The End of Oak Street! What first drew you to this project?

David Robert Mitchelle is extraordinary, and I truly admired his other work before this. He has such a gift of creating characters that are so human. I really fell in love with the script and this world that he built. It’s such an interesting concept to put ordinary people into the most unordinary situation.

Without giving away any spoilers, what can you tell us about your character and why audiences should pay attention to her?

My character is kind of the girl next door who just moved into town. Audiences should pay attention to her because I think she’s an underdog. Jeanette is quiet and softspoken, but she’s strong and brave. I think it’s beautiful how all of those qualities can exist at the same time within someone.

You share the screen with Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor. What was it like working alongside two such accomplished actors?

It was a dream come true. Many of their films are what inspired me to want to become an actor, so I feel very grateful to have my first film be alongside them. I learned so much just from watching them on set. I tried my best to gain as much knowledge from them as I could and they are so incredible that it’s impossible not to.

Thrillers often demand a different kind of performance. What was the biggest challenge in bringing your character to life?

It was challenging at first trying to learn how to decompress at the end of a long day and sort of separate my personal life from a make-believe world that I care so deeply about. I learned a lot about balance while bringing Jeanette to life. Sometimes our bodies don’t understand we’re just playing pretend, especially when we’re creating anxiety and fear within ourselves. I had to find ways to leave it at the door.

The buzz around the film suggests your character could play an even bigger role if the story continues. How exciting is it to potentially be part of a larger franchise?

Very exciting. I care so much for this story and for the characters. I feel so grateful even getting to be in any small part of it.

You were also able to showcase your music through Defending Jacob. How rewarding was it to combine your two passions?

When I was in high school, I would make music in my bedroom for fun. I felt so lucky getting the opportunity to showcase my love for music in that project.

Do acting and songwriting inspire each other in unexpected ways?

Yes. They’re pretty similar because they’re both forms of storytelling. I use music a lot to get into a certain headspace when I’m filming. It’s crazy how quickly you can enter a different place through a song.

What qualities do you look for when choosing your next project?

Well-developed characters with flaws and all are always the most intriguing. Vulnerability and honesty are important to me because I like to be challenged as an actor or even the viewer. I also think beautiful stories can exist within any genre.

As someone balancing acting and music, how do you make time for both creative outlets?

Music has always been something that I’ve made for myself first. I try to not put too much pressure on myself with music as I see it as more of a personal outlet. Though, I view acting as something that isn’t just for me. The end goal is to create a story for someone else to be moved by, which I love. I feel a larger duty there.

Looking ahead, what excites you most about this next chapter of your career?

I love the collaborative nature of filmmaking. I can’t wait to create with more beautifully talented people. I’m looking forward to inspiration finding me again and again.
