IN CONVERSATION WITH KITA ALEXANDER

interview by JANA LETONJA

Kita Alexander continues her rise as one of pop’s most emotionally resonant voices with the release of her new single Tell My Friends, featuring Christopher, taken from her upcoming album RAGE. Blending 70s-inspired warmth with contemporary indie-pop, the track captures the complexity of relationships, vulnerability, and emotional aftermath. Following a breakout few years that have seen her expand globally, Kita now heads into a new era with RAGE and an upcoming UK and EU tour, further cementing her place as a compelling force in modern pop.

What does the title RAGE represent to you personally?

It's an everyday reminder to unapologetically be myself and honour all the feelings that arise in me. Even the ones with scary and ugly stigmas.

You’ve mentioned anger as something transformative. How did that idea evolve during the writing process?

The fact that I thought rage was something I needed to avoid at all costs to then create a body of work, a piece of art, if that’s not transformative, I don’t know what is. It was probably halfway through that I thought “Wow, anger is beautiful”.

How does this project differ from your earlier work, like Young in Love?

This project is the opposite of my first. YIL was light, youthful, and romantic. RAGE is raw, organic, and full of stories.

What role do 70s influences play in shaping your sound right now?

I’ve always been inspired by Fleetwood Mac, Queen, etc., but for this record, Sheryl Crow was a huge influence. She’s a baddie with great stories.

How do you balance vulnerability with strong pop sensibility in your music?

Easy, I love pop melodies; they come the most naturally to me. The musical production vulnerability was a conscious decision to help balance me out and honour the themes of the album.

What has been the most cathartic moment while creating this album?

The middle 8 of the title track RAGE. It was probably the last song I wrote for the record. I just repeatedly yelled and yelled this section until it felt like all of my anger that I’d been bottling was purged. It felt amazing, and I felt like I really completed the record after that.

What can fans expect from your upcoming UK and EU tour?

Kita in the northern hemisphere is a rare occurrence. They’re going to expect to see me in real life and hear their favourite songs. I’ll bring a little bit of Australia over to them.

You’ve had a big few years. How has your perspective on success changed?

It’s changed to feel like I’ve arrived. I am successful, and I have achieved that. Of course, I have dreams and aspirations of where I want to take my career, but I am also just so grateful that this has been my life so far.

How do you stay creatively inspired while constantly evolving your sound?

The evolution of my sound is what inspires me. I’m an ideas girl; I thrive off of change and movement. I can’t wait to see what I do next.

What’s next for you after RAGE?

I think I’d like to be the kind of person who is locked into a sound, but I fear that isn’t me. I want to evolve always. If you’re not moving and growing, you’re dying.
