IN CONVERSATION WITH EGONLAB

FLORENTIN GLÉMAREC and KEVIN NOMPEIX are not solely co-founders of EGONLAB, they are also life partners whose creative bond shapes every stitch, silhouette and soundscape they craft. Their work merges tradition and innovation, tailoring and rebellion, all filtered through a multidisciplinary approach that integrates fashion with music, movement and multimedia.
Self-taught in many ways, they built their brand outside of the traditional fashion structures. With EGONLAB, they aim to create a platform for self-expression that transcends gender, age and body type. Clothes become language, collections become stories and the runway becomes a stage where individuality is at the centre.
What first sparked your creative curiosity, and when did fashion become your language?
EGONLAB: We were inspired by visionaries like ALEXANDER MCQUEEN, VIVIENNE WESTWOOD, REI KAWAKUBO — artists who didn’t just make clothes but questioned the very purpose of fashion. And others like DAVID LYNCH, STANLEY KUBRICK, GÉRICAULT and ALBRECHT DÜRER showed us that clothing could carry ideas, identity and resistance. We’ve always seen fashion as a kind of living theatre, where we can be both the authors and the protagonists of our own narratives.
KEVIN NOMPEIX: I’ve always been drawn to drama. Fashion became a shield and a mirror — a way to free myself from societal expectations and present my authentic self to the world.
Your shows often blend music, movement and visuals. Does the sound come before the clothes?
Sometimes. We often start by creating a soundscape with collaborators like PABLO BOZZI, and the music sets the emotional tone for the season. It influences the energy, the tempo and even the cut of the garments. Other times, a silhouette inspires the rhythm. With multimedia partners like COSMIC SHELTER, we push beyond the physical runway, building immersive narratives where sound, light and movement are as integral as fabric and form.
Our fall/winter 2025 issue is titled FANTASY. What does fantasy mean to you?
Fantasy is not escapism — it’s a radical act of projection. It’s a rebellion against limits and the construction of new possibilities. For us, it’s where genres blur, history meets the future and binaries dissolve. Fantasy reveals hidden hopes and fears, re-enchanting fashion with wonder, purpose and agency.
