IN CONVERSATION WITH JENNA ORTEGA

interview by TIMOTEJ LETONJA
words by NATALIE GAL

JENNA ORTEGA is not afraid to delve into unexpected creative territory. She’s evolved from a “Disney kid” into a standout actor of her generation, actively dismantling the stereotypes often placed on young talent in the entertainment industry. Widely known as “Gen Z’s scream queen,” Jenna has captivated audiences with her iconic roles in Scream VI, the cult phenomenon Wednesday and the highly anticipated Beetlejuice sequel. And who could forget her memorable appearance in SABRINA CARPENTER’s “Taste” music video?

We recently sat down with Jenna to discuss her exciting collaboration with DIOR as she steps into her new role as beauty ambassador and the face of Dior Makeup, debuting Rouge Dior On Stage. Our conversation delved into this partnership, her connection to the timeless fashion house, her remarkable transition from Disney and, of course, her unique relationship with the concept of fantasy.

In an industry that often blurs the line between reality and imagination, what does fantasy mean to you as an artist and as a person?

I agree with you, I think it’s very true that the lines are off. I think it is my job to show up to a red carpet, meet audiences and promote something that we’re proud of or celebrate the creation of something that I made with a community that I respect. But also, there’s a part of that world that is not human and not normal to the human condition. So, it’s nice to look at something like that as a fantastical element of life.

My job is so grounded in humanity and authenticity and what feeling is right to that person in that moment. And yes, there could be a dragon flying around, but when that camera is rolling, that’s very real to you and it’s very important to you. A lot of it is mindset. Sometimes you’ve got to be willing to succumb and participate.

What does it mean to you, especially creatively and personally, to be part of the House of Dior, one of the biggest brands out there?

It’s such an honour to be alongside so many other ambassadors that I’ve looked up to all my life; people who possess these qualities that I would like to see in myself. It’s a very elegant and powerful house but also very honest. And that’s really important to me. I didn’t know that this would ever be a part of my job or an opportunity I would get, so it’s been an absolute honour trying something new and working with people who are so talented and ambitious in their work.

I’ve learned so much about other sides of my career through working with Dior — and also about myself by playing with self-expression. It just gives me a much greater appreciation for all the art that goes into the brand because I’m seeing firsthand how many talented individuals are working on creating the best possible product and how much it means to people. It makes me cherish everything so much more.
