IN CONVERSATION WITH RAYE

interview by TIMOTEJ and JANA LETONJA
words by JANA LETONJA

As AUDEMARS PIGUET marks an incredible 150 years of watchmaking mastery, the celebration wouldn’t be complete without a blend of heritage and contemporary artistry. At the heart of this unforgettable event stands the sensational singer-songwriter RAYE, whose genre-defying voice and fearless creativity have captivated global audiences. Teaming up with legendary producer MARK RONSON, RAYE brought her unique energy and musical brilliance to the stage, reflecting the spirit of innovation and elegance that defines Audemars Piguet.

We chatted with RAYE to explore the inspiration behind this special collaboration, her views on legacy and timelessness, and what it means to bring music to life in partnership with a brand that has shaped history—one beat, and one timepiece, at a time.

How did it feel to be part of such a milestone celebration, 150 years of a brand like Audemars Piguet? And how did the environment and audience influence your performance at this special event?

It was amazing. It was such an honour to be asked to be part of this moment for Audemars Piguet. I think they really know how to bring together a star-studded crowd. And I was absolutely terrified. They could have warned me before I went out because they said, “You know, we’ll have some friends of the brand come in.” They’re all very modest and humble over the  AP family. I go out, and I’m just locking eyes with MERYL STREEP, and I don’t know where to look. But it was a beautiful event and they put so much care and love into the details. This is another thing I love about working with this brand. The details matter. It’s the same for us in the music world — when you just care about the venue, the environment, sound, the presentation. There was so much passion, and the experience was just mind blowing.

If you could describe your musical journey so far in one Audemars Piguet timepiece, which one would it be and why?

I’m going to go with the Royal Oak Mini, my gold one that I’m wearing right now. I feel like in recent years, I’m really starting to come into my own. On the outside, when I’m onstage, I put on a beautiful dress and I have my gorgeous hair that my amazing hairstylist does for me, but inside, there’s a lot ticking away in there. There’re a lot of complexities and things going on behind the surface.
