ISLA FISHER STARS ON THE COVER OF NUMÉRO NETHERLANDS’ FANTASY
interview by JANA LETONJA
ISLA FISHER is a dynamic Australian actress and bestselling author whose career spans over two decades across television, film, and literature. She rose to fame in the mid-90s as Shannon Reed on HOME AND AWAY, and went on to star in hit films like WEDDING CRASHERS, CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC, and THE GREAT GATSBY. Beyond acting, she’s a successful children’s author with her MARGE IN CHARGE book series. ISLA most recently starred in the series WOLF LIKE ME and had a cameo in BRIDGET JONES: MAD ABOUT THE BOY. Next up, we’ll be seeing her in NOW YOU SEE ME: NOW YOU DON’T, Noah Baumbach’s JAY KELLY, premiering at the Venice Film Festival, and the comedy SPA WEEKEND.

You’ve got quite a few exciting projects coming up, from NOW YOU SEE ME: NOW YOU DON’T, to JAY KELLY and SPA WEEKEND. Can you give us a glimpse into these roles and what audiences can expect?
In NOW YOU SEE ME: NOW YOU DON’T, I'm obviously coming back as Henley Reeves, but she's a mom now, so there's another layer of chaos to her and she basically comes back and joins the Horseman again. I don't want to give away too much, but it's that dysfunctional, lovable family that the Horsemen are that make her feel inspired by her job. But what's fun about this movie is that all the magic that we do is basically magic that we learned and it's all real life magic. I think with the second film, which I wasn't in, they did a lot of camera CGI magic later on and created stuff. This time, we all worked really hard on our magic. It feels very grounded. There's a lot of action, there's a lot of fun. It's a really great story. I think it's definitely as good as the first one. And I feel really proud to be back in the franchise, back with my friends, back with my amazing director, Ruben Fleischer.
And then another movie, SPA WEEKEND, was so much fun to shoot. Not only did I go back to my home country Australia, but it's with Michelle Buteau, who's hilarious, Anna Faris and Leslie Mann. You know, in every female friendship group there's one friend that nobody really likes, but everybody always includes because you feel really bad because they've been there for so long, and everybody kind of slags them off a bit. Well, my character's that one, and I'm playing a lunatic again. It's a comedy by the guys who wrote BAD MOMS, Scott Moore and Jon Lucas. I'm really proud of it.
And then JAY KELLY. I have a very small role in it, but truthfully, I'm such a fan of Noah Baumbach. I feel like he wrote and directed it so well, and the script was penned by Emily Mortimer, who I'm equally a big fan of. And it has George Clooney and just a great cast in it. So even though I only three days on that movie, it was wonderful to be on set with someone like Noah, and to watch how he processes and works. It was fascinating.
