MARINE SERRE’S FALL-WINTER 2025 CAMPAIGN: HEADS OR TAILS

words by NATALIE GAL

Following the Fall-Winter 2025 show at La Monnaie de Paris, Marine Serre unveils their visual campaign. Rooted in the spirit of the French New Wave, it blends classic Parisian fashion, ballet flats, sailor stripes, and vintage accessories, with a fresh, modern twist. It’s an homage to a bygone era, reimagined for today’s woman, bringing the undeniable confidence and charm of the “femme fatale”.

ACT 1. MORNING IN PARIS

Let me set the scene: you wake up in black silk pyjamas, in a classic Haussmann-style Parisian apartment. It’s the early 1970s. There’s probably an old-fashioned silver coffee machine humming softly in the background. A dreamy life, one drawn straight from a Nouvelle Vague film, a Godard-esque sentimental reality with the romanticism of a Rohmer summer.

Marine Serre captures this feeling effortlessly in their new collection. A bygone era I must confess I cannot help but adore. Ballet flats, sailor stripes, a strand of pearls, it’s as Parisian as it gets. And the three signature accessories of the season? The new Aurora bag, the now-iconic Strike bag, and the All Over Moon ballet flats.

We’ve seen a strong resurgence this year, ballet flats are everywhere again, probably the most popular they’ve been since the French New Wave era. They’re being styled with everything from wide-leg jeans and mini skirts to sheer, red tights and tailored shorts. They come in all shapes and personalities, some in satin, some with bows, and others in mesh or leather. Stripes are also making a comeback, but in unexpected ways. Instead of the classic navy-and-white, we’re seeing stripes in colours like lavender, olive green, burnt orange, butter yellow, and baby blue.

It feels as though the pieces were lifted from the wardrobes of Jean Seberg in À bout de souffle, Anna Karina in Une femme est une femme, and Haydée Politoff in La Collectionneuse. There’s a quiet power here, the elements of a femme fatale who finds confidence in herself (and her fringe or pixie cut). A woman who’s stopped taking men too seriously, who delights in seduction not as survival, but as joy.

This is just the first act of the campaign, there are two more to come. And I must confess, I’m waiting eagerly. I’ve been waiting for the new wave to be well…new once again.
