MARNI WELCOMES MERYLL ROGGE AS THEIR NEW CREATIVE DIRECTOR
words by NATALIE GAL
Following the era of Francesco Risso’s creative leadership, lasting 10 years, now Marni opens a new chapter. The Italian brand welcomes Meryll Rogge as their new creative director, as she brings her expertise, bold style and unique artistic vision.
It all started with a summer internship. Rogge was enrolled at the Royal Academy of Arts when she has been spotted by Mark Jacobs Her work soon led to a full-time job at the house. Here, she could develop her skills, and push boundaries, find the concepts that define her career now.
But let’s wind back a bit further. Rogge was raised in the beautiful Ghent, a city that is known to give home to many great artists and even greater pieces of art. Being interested in fashion and creative as a young girl, she still decided to attend law at The Université Notre Dame de la Paix. Only after receiving her first degree did she attend the Royal Academy of Arts, and the rest is history.

She is known for the refusal to give into that certain stereotype. The concept that northern European fashion is minimal, careful, black and white (with a touch of grey). Her style is bold, over-the-top, colourful, with a constant, joyous play with shapes and materials. She is creative, surprising, fun. It is interesting to witness her journey, from Marc Jacobs, through Dries Van Noten, to arriving to Marni. She found her artistic voice along the way.
The fashion world is curious to see how she will apply this artistic voice to the heritage of Marni. The match is certainly good, her work and aesthetic identity seems to align with the brand’s current vision. Marni is known for their colourful, bohemian elegance, that now meets with Rogge’s boldness and artistic sensitivity. We are definitely looking forward to a harmonious and memorable era for the brand!
