WANDLER ART STUDIOS PRESENT PHILIPPA ATKINSON

words by NATALIE GAL

As part of Amsterdam Art Week 2025, Wandler Art Studios invited us to a spectacular solo exhibition by Australian plein-air painter Phillipa Atkinson. Moreover, following the exhibition Wandler provided a wonderful and memorable dinner.

Atkinson's art is absolutely one of a kind, she uses UV-sensitive ink and cut cardboard silhouettes, utilising directly the sun to capture nature's charm. The results are angelic, soft, conscious and utterly enchanting. “My medium is sunlight, and my collaborator is the season itself. I work intuitively in the open air, seeking the sanctuary within," says Atkinson.

One cannot help but reminisce the plain air icons, such as Monet or Renoir. Their goal was to capture light, nature in its purest form. I have always been captivated by their art, how human, how ethereal and pristine they are. Phillipa Atkinson is undoubtedly a deserving and excellent successor of their genius.

Wandler Studios was established in 2017 by Elza Wandler, the brand has long been drawn towards contemporary art and natural form. Now, alongside the exhibition, Wandler presents its Spring–Summer 2025 collection and offers a first preview of Fall 2025. Their focus this year is earthy tones, the power of light and sun, and the interconnectedness of humans and nature. Moreover, dear reader, you may glimpse these thought-provoking creations yourself from May 21 until June 15, daily from 10:00 until 18:00.
