WHAT REMAINS OF HUMANITY WHEN ART DISAPPEARS FROM OUR LIVES?

words by NATALIE GAL

"What Remains of Humanity When Art Disappears From Our Lives?" This profound question lies at the heart of art historian, journalist, writer, and art collector Cathelijne Blok's newest publication. The book delves deep into the possibilities and capacities of art, arguing for its crucial power to confront, inspire, challenge, console, and ultimately, to hold a mirror up to society – a function we desperately need, especially in politically charged times like our own.

Cathelijne Blok is an art-historian, journalist, writer and art collector. She is also founder of Tittymag, a feminist art platform. She also works currently on a podcast Maffe Monarchs, and she is a regular public speaker. For her, art isn't just a subject; it's the fundamental thread through which society can be analyzed and understood. Her unique perspective makes her the ideal storyteller to explore the profound risks of undervaluing art's impact and power.

It's a pressing concern: the state of art in our world. Art, music, and literature should never be luxuries reserved for a privileged few; they are fundamental necessities. They are what keeps humanity moving, growing, and without them, the soul of both the individual and society simply cannot function in a healthy way. History consistently reminds us that when societies lose touch, art suffers – it is stolen, destroyed, damaged, and hurt. Indeed, how we treat art is often a direct reflection of how we treat people.

Let this publication serve as a powerful reminder. The book is set to be released on July 17th – be sure to get your copy and join the conversation.
