HOTEL MONGIBELLO, THE CHARM OF THE ‘60S IN IBIZA
words by ANANO SHALAMBERIDZE
Ibiza has long been defined by contrasts. For every legendary beach club and after-hours party, there is a quieter corner where time slows. Tucked away in the peaceful bay of Siesta, just outside Santa Eulària des Riu, Hotel Mongibello offers exactly that.

Inspired by the spirit of La Dolce Vita, the hotel channels the elegance of the Italian Riviera in the 1960s and '70s. The name itself is borrowed from the fictional Italian village in Patricia Highsmith's novel The Talented Mr Ripley.Think sun-faded pastels, sculptural furniture, terrazzo floors, striped loungers and a colour palette that feels lifted from a Slim Aarons photograph.
Hotel Mongibello is part of Ibiza-based Concept Hotel Group, the collection of design-led boutique hotels founded by Diego Calvo. Rather than creating interchangeable luxury properties, Calvo has built a portfolio of hotels that each tell their own story, drawing inspiration from music, film, fashion and pop culture. Mongibello is perhaps the group's most cinematic concept.
The 168 rooms offer crisp white linens, soft pastel tones and subtle nautical details. Bright, airy and elegantly understated, they combine Mediterranean simplicity with Italian flair. Many rooms frame uninterrupted sea views, reminding visitors that, despite its Italian influences, this is unmistakably Ibiza.
The hotel's facilities are equally well considered. The large pool is the natural focal point, lined with vintage-inspired loungers and overlooking the sea, while the poolside spa offers massages and treatments in the open air, making it easy to settle into holiday mode.
What makes Mongibello particularly compelling is its relationship with Ibiza itself. Santa Eulària has long attracted artists, sailors and travellers seeking a slower pace, and the hotel mirrors that sensibility. It's within walking distance of the marina and the town's independent boutiques and restaurants, yet removed enough to preserve a sense of escape. Days are spent drifting between the pool, the small beach below and long walks along the waterfront. In an era where luxury hotels often compete to be louder, larger and more extravagant, Mongibello succeeds by embracing character instead.
