HOTEL UNIQUE, A DIFFERENT SIDE OF SÃO PAULO
Hotel Unique is truly a reflection of its name; it’s shaped by its atmosphere and its people, allowing different elements to come together to create a hotel stay that stands apart from its peers. Since opening in 2002, it has always been about creating a sensory experience. You notice textures, light, and moody ambiance everywhere, but never in an overwhelming way. Its subtle eloquence stays with you, creating a signature unique stay.

Originally designed by Ruy Ohtake, his style is still very much present. Though there have been recent renovations, the goal was never to alter his legacy, but rather to just build upon it. Led by João Armentano, the update focuses on clean lines, mixed with curves and lighting, while keeping the building’s character untouched. This renovation gave birth to a new getaway experience: The Mayfair Room, created through a merging of two rooms. Featuring doubled round windows that overlook São Paolo’s cityscape— almost like a pair of eyes— and furnished with signature artisan armchairs, it is definitely a favorite addition.
As you enter the hotel, the experience starts in a dark, enclosed elevator, allowing you space for a quiet, almost private moment. From there, you move through dim, curved corridors before stepping into bright rooms. Inside, the atmosphere does a 180: lighter tones, soft whites, wood, cut with a raw concrete. It feels both warm and minimal at the same time.
Glass elements and open layouts add a sense of transparency. There are also small surprises, like a bathtub placed directly in the room, or hidden tech that controls lighting and sound, along with the unique “infinite floor” design that is featured in multiple suites. Spas and rooftop pools keep you feeling luxurious and pampered, while surrounded by state-of-the-art architechture.
Subtle touches of Brazilian design, including pieces by Sérgio Rodrigues, give the space its identity. This is transferred to its gastronomy melting Brazilian flavors with touches of French, Japanese and Italian cuisine to honor São Paolo’s diverse culture.
