MALTA BEEF CLUB IS RIO DE JANEIRO’S MEAT HEAVEN

Meat lovers, listen up! Rio de Janeiro has the place for you. Malta Beef Club has established itself as one of Brazil’s most reliable places for high-quality meat, offering a perfectly executed take on the classic steakhouse experience. Founded in 2017 by entrepreneur Marcelo Malta, the restaurant now operates in two locations, Jardim Botânico and Leblon, both with a strong commitment to premium sourcing and consistency.

The quality of the ingredients is always at the center. Malta works closely with a curated network of suppliers, bringing in everything from Japanese Wagyu to Brazilian Curraleiro Pé-Duro cattle, known for their distinctive flavor and marbling. Alongside familiar cuts like picanha, filet mignon, and ancho, there is a broader selection that includes Denver steak, tomahawk, and dry-aged options — serving variety without refusing tradition.

The menu extends beyond grilled meats with one of the highlights being the in-house charcuterie program, made using Nilo-Pirapetinga heritage pork. Salame, coppa, and speck are omnipresent and provide a perfect start to the meal. Starters are varied, ranging from more casual options like pastéis and croquettes to a more committed steak tartare and carpaccio.

Side dishes aren’t so side after all, often standing out on their own. The different farofas, rice preparations, beans, and fried vegetables are well balanced and complement the main dishes while still maintaining a certain authority. The arroz à piemontese, a Rio staple, lands tastefully between comfort and indulgence.

The burger is another major standout of the restaurant and has become one of Malta’s signatures. Its popularity has in fact, grown enough to expand into a separate delivery operation and an upcoming spin-off concept — perfectly immediate, accessible, and highly repeatable.

The drinks menu is extensive and well-rounded. Proprietary beers and house-label wines coexist with an extensive list of spirits, cocktails, and regional references, including the city’s beloved mate.

Overall, Malta Beef Club delivers an extremely consistent dining experience. While it doesn’t aim to reinvent the genre, it stands out for the quality of its ingredients, attention to detail, and a clear understanding of what its audience expects.
