The story of Disaronno began when artist Bernardino Luini, a pupil of Leonardo da Vinci, was commissioned to decorate a chapel in the town of Saronno. For his depiction of Madonna, he chose a local innkeeper to sit as his model, and as thanks Luini received a bottle of fragrant, amber-coloured liqueur. And so, a legend was born.
