VENTUNO SKYLOUNGE: AMSTERDAM'S HIGH-RISE HOTSPOT
words by NATALIE GAL
Perched high above Amsterdam, Ventuno Skylounge awaits, a hidden gem on the 21st floor of Amstelvlietstraat. Far above the rooftops of Oost, it offers not just panoramic city views but also some of the city's finest cuisine, where Italian culinary traditions gracefully meet New York's soulful, over-the-top elegance.
The night at Ventuno is a complete experience. While wonderful music sets the mood, the true highlight is undoubtedly the entertainment. A grand piano, talented dancers, skilled musicians, captivating singers, and dynamic DJs aren't just massively talented; their shows are perfectly balanced. Let’s face it, live entertainment can often be risky, but Ventuno manages it flawlessly, with performances that truly elevate the dining experience.
The design embodies Art Deco in its best form. It's a challenging artistic style to truly capture, being both detailed and complex, yet Ventuno has wonderfully captured its essence in their interior. This sophisticated, edgy aesthetic also subtly nods to New York's classic club culture while maintaining Art Deco classicism.
The menu perfectly mirrors these aesthetics, focusing on Italian classics with an international twist. The lobster spaghetti is a standout, and the creamy truffle steak tartare is truly outstanding. Perhaps the most memorable dish was the Bistecca alla Fiorentina, a huge, expertly prepared T-bone steak, theatrically cut tableside. It's not just a perfectly balanced, delicious meal but also a rare and incredibly memorable experience.
