SEEING DOUBLE ON ‘4 RAWS’ WITH TIMOTHÉE CHALAMET AND ESDEEKID
words by VERONICA TLAPANCO SZABÓ
“All will be revealed in due time.” And now, apparently, due time has arrived. In what might be the most beautiful media fabrication to witness this year, the internet had been swirling and twirling with the theory that Timothée Chalamet was living a double life as Scouse masked rapper EsDeeKid, an elusive figure who only ever offers his eyes from beneath a balaclava. It was unserious, excessive, basically perfect. Chalamet has now seemingly put the speculation to rest by appearing on a remix of EsDeeKid’s “4 Raws.”

I can’t be the only one who took an unreasonable amount of joy in this conspiracy, so much so that believing in Santa again suddenly felt plausible. There’s something genuinely refreshing when celebrities lean into a bit, especially one this silly and this well-executed. EsDeeKid has barely left my headphones these past few weeks, his tracks charged with an energy that I can’t find elsewhere and how thrilling it is to witness his uprise. Perfectly matching that of Chalamet, who demonstrated a heartwarming willingness to play along, all while mid Marty Supreme rollout. Then the stars aligned, quite literally and together, they played it perfectly.
A white boy has never had more motion, or has he? For the OGs, Timothée’s rap credentials were never in doubt, remember the Lil’ Timmy Tim days. As for Kylie, after all, she did end up dating another rapper, and she naturally gets a nod in the verse: “girl got a billion… what a wonderful feeling.” By the end, Chalamet situated himself again somewhere between fiction and self-promo: “Live on Arrakis and Mordor, I live like the king with my sword drawn, It’s that Marty Supreme and the four raws.”
What a time to be alive.
