THE TALENT AWARDS 2026 WINNERS SHOW THE IMPORTANCE OF VISIBILITY AND INVESTMENT

The new generation of filmmakers are here! The Talent Awards 2026 honoured the winners at the Netherlands Film Festival bringing the NFF debut competition, NFF student competition and Talent award 2026 to stage in Utrecht.

The awards celebrate recent graduates and debut filmmakers, whose films showcase the new Dutch creative landscape. Among these filmmakers was Ashley Röttjers with the film Rain in August that won the NFF Debut Competition, alongside emerging talents Olivia Mos, Noor Kolsters, Piter Reitsma, Janyar Zakholi, and Job Jovanović.

These achievements provide artists with professional networks and opportunities that will not only shape their future, but also the industry in itself. Bringing new voices to the industry invites diversity within storytelling and culture thanks to their different, unruly perspectives, and approaches to the film world. Young creatives are more willing to experiment, take risks, and challenge established ways of filmmaking. Supporting new talents ultimately encourages the industry to keep evolving, instead of remaining focused on the same concepts.

This nourishment cannot be possible without film institutions, funders, publishers, cinemas and audiences – they all contribute to determining whose voices gets to be heard. By commissioning emerging filmmakers their work, attending their film screenings, sharing their projects, offering mentorship, or simply giving them more visibility, gives the industry space for change, experimentation, growth, and new forms of storytelling. This investment can therefore benefit not only the filmmakers, but also the ecosystem of the industry as a whole.

The NFF Talent Awards truly showcases how what can happen when young artists are given the recognition and opportunities to develop, as they are our future.
