WHAT TO SEE AT THE 2026 VENICE IMMERSIVEE
The 83rd Venice International Film Festival returns for a landmark year for Venice Immersive, with Denis O’Regan opening his archive to present over 800 images from years photographing David Bowie, brought to life with L-Acoustics’ spatial audio for Bowie: Unseen | Unheard; Margot Robbie narrating a journey through the Galápagos’ evolution in Anthony Geffen’s Galápagos: The Last Eden; An ensemble cast appearing as holograms on a specially made table, taking full advantage of advanced volumetric capture in the solarpunk narrative Empire at Sea; A documentary PCVR experience, Finding Frida, presenting the work of lesser-known Art Nouveau textile artist FridaHansen; And a Juilliard-trained pianist making his immersive debut with Ulrica, reimagining footage captured in scuba expeditions, projected into water orbs, into a story about history, war, and memory.
Bowie: Unseen | Unheard
Photographer Denis O’Regan captures an audio-visual experience that reveals never-before-seen images from Bowie’s life and career. Each image comes to life through an 3D soundscape presented in L-Acoustics’ cutting-edge Spatial Audio technology, placing you inside the music and atmosphere of each moment.
Empire At Sea
Starring Orlando Jones, Ayelet Zurer, Geoffrey Arend, and Beth Grant, among others using advanced volumetric capture, this Solarpunk AR drama is experienced alongside ten fellow audience members using AR glasses, allowing people to follow multiple simultaneous storylines presented as a tabletop hologram.
Finding Frida
In a "real unreality" VR space, a miniature Art Nouveau villa appears before expanding to full scale. In Finding Frida, we step into the world of Frida Hansen - once an internationally acclaimed textile artist, now largely forgotten. Guided by her great-great-granddaughter Cecilie, we explore a lush garden where archival photographs, a gramophone and woven artworks become portals into Frida's life.
Galápagos: The Last Eden
The Last Eden is a groundbreaking immersive experience produced by multi-BAFTA and Emmy-winning filmmaker Anthony Geffen, directed by Lina Zilinskaite and Marcus Moresby, and is narrated by Academy Award nominee Margot Robbie, in collaboration with Google. Bringing together world-class filmmaking with immersive technology made possible with Android XR, the experience transports you to one of the planet's most extraordinary natural environments.
ULRICA
ULRICA transforms underwater footage and spatial audio into a drifting narrative of a submariner’s escape, drawing its audiences into the thresholds of war, memory, and deep history within the ocean’s disorienting sensory landscape.
MadWomen Breakfast
The MadWomen Breakfast returns to the Hotel Excelsior on September 6 for its seventh year. Founder Jacqueline Bosnjak hosts alongside Liz Rosenthal, curator of Venice Immersive, and Marcie Jastrow. Presented with Google’s 100 ZEROS, Iris International and Q Department, the annual flagship brings together women shaping entertainment, technology and capital.
