BRUSSELS ART WEEK: RENDEZVOUS BRINGS BRUSSELS' ART SCENE INTO SYNC

Brussels' art scene isn't concentrated in one district. It's spread across neighborhoods, galleries, and artist-run spaces. Brussels Art Week, back for its second edition from September 10 to 13, brings them into sync, if only for four days.

The galleries don't move. What changes is timing. Participating spaces open together, grouped by neighborhood, so visitors can follow a route instead of chasing the city block by block: Molenbeek, Anderlecht, and Forest on the 11th, Sablon and the city center on the 12th, Ixelles, Saint-Gilles, and Uccle on the 13th.

At the center sits the Salon de RendezVous, a temporary hub built just for the week. This year it's in Forest, steps from WIELS, designed by Espace Aygo, a Dutch Design Award-winning collective known for its work in recycling and circular design. Inside: a bar, a pop-up bookstore, a small cinema, a stage for talks. The installation carries extra weight too, it marks Espace Aygo's final presentation in Brussels before the collective relocates.

Around the Salon, the programming widens, bringing together names like Mendes Wood DM, Almine Rech, Xavier Hufkens, and Sorry We're Closed. Performers Stina Fors, Teo Ala-Ruona, and Ivan Cheng bring interesting interventions into Espace Aygo's installation.

Behind the event are Laure Decock and Evelyn Simons, two women who've spent over a decade inside Brussels' art world, before deciding the city needed something to hold it all together. Their goal wasn't to build something new. It was to make an already strong scene easier to see and experience.
