CASIO’S NEW RING-SIZED G-SHOCK HAS US WRAPPED AROUND THEIR FINGER

A fabled collector’s item since the 1980s, it seemed impossible that Casio’s iconic G-SHOCK watch could get any cooler. From collaborations with famed streetwear brands like Stussy, Brain Dead, and Pigalle, to being spotted on the wrists of celebrity fans like Spike Lee, Rihanna, and Pharrell, the shock-resistant watch has garnered a cult following. To build on its legacy of avant-garde taste making, Casio Computer Co., Ltd. announced last week the release of the DWN-5600, a new G-SHOCK watch that incorporates the model’s shock and water resistance in a ring size iteration—the smallest dimensions in the brand’s history.

This marks the brand’s second foray into ring watches, after the launch of the CRW-001 in December of last year; a release that has proved so popular that production has had a hard time keeping up with demand. With the CRW-001, Casio was able to achieve the possibility of miniaturisation while maintaining watch functionality, and the latest G-SHOCK model is only further evidence of this mission’s success.
The new DWN-5600 ring-sized watch inherits the iconic form and much of the same features as the original 5600 model, such as a shock-resistant structure and 200-metre water resistance, all while measuring one-tenth the size of a full-size DW-5600UE G-SHOCK watch. The shock-resistant structure is achieved by miniaturizing components including the battery and the use of high-density mounting technology that precisely arranges components within the limited space, all while housed in custom ring-sized case.

Injection moulding technology is utilised to precisely reproduce the intricate shapes and finest details of the bezel and band, whilst the buttons, buckle, and case back are all made with the same stainless steel as wrist-worn G-SHOCK watches. Discerning fans will recognise the 6-digit digital LCD featured on the watch face as identical to the 5600 watches and will be able to admire the band’s adjustability to fit the size of the user’s finger.
Offering high practicality in the size of a finger-ring, the DWN-5600 displays the time down to the second and includes calendar, LED backlight, and stopwatch functions. The watch also features dual time capability that can simultaneously show two different times, a superb blend of style and function.
